Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The Adversity Malware Protection (AMP) feature is the most valuable. It is also very easy to use. Every technical user can operate this solution without any difficulty. The dashboard of Cisco Firepower has every tool that a security operator needs. You can find every resource that you need to operate through this dashboard.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""I have integrated it for incidence response. If there is a security event, the Cisco firewall will automatically block the traffic, which is valuable.""We get the Security Intelligence Feeds refreshed every hour from Talos, which from my understanding is that they're the largest intelligence Security Intelligence Group outside of the government.""If you compare the ASA and the FirePOWER, the best feature with FirePOWER is easy to use GUI. It has most of the same functionality in the Next-Generation FirePOWER, such as IPS, IPS policies, security intelligence, and integration and identification of all the devices or hardware you have in your network. Additionally, this solution is user-friendly.""The Firepower+ISE+AMP for endpoint integration is something that really stands it out with other vendor solutions. They have something called pxGrid and i think it is already endorsed by IETF. This allows all devices on the network to communicate.""It is one of the fastest solutions, if not the fastest, in the security technology space. This gives us peace of mind knowing that as soon as a new attack comes online that we will be protected in short order. From that perspective, no one really comes close now to Firepower, which is hugely valuable to us from an upcoming new attack prevention perspective.""We have not had to deal with stability issues."

"In terms of specific features, I like FortiGate's load balancing, interface, and priority on the network.""I like the visibility and monitoring features because they're easy to use to monitor traffic. Features like geo-blocking and more have AI, and we're currently using all of it. But for now, we're only using geo-blocking, and we're able to block traffic from different countries. I also like that it's highly responsive. VM04 is also very powerful.""The most valuable feature is the UTM, which gives them an advantage over other firewalls.""While the stability maybe isn't quite to the level of Cisco, it is a very cost-effective solution. It's cheap compared to Cisco.""The thing that I like the most is that they're very willing to work with us to resolve issues that they haven't taken care of before in their product.""This product is affordable and it's a good, high-performance appliance.""The support is good. We don't have any issues with the technical support.""The pricing of the solution is good."

"We purchased the AGSS Bundle (Advanced Gateway Security Suite) for the security services, such as antivirus, intrusion prevention system, and anti-spyware botnet GUI.""The security of this system is fantastic, including the IPS and IDS."

Cons
"In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard.""Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded.""The performance should be improved.""I would like to see improvement when you create policies on Snort 3 IPS on Cisco Firepower. On Snort 2, it was more like a UI page where you had some multiple choices where you could tweak your config. On Snort 3, the idea is more to build some rules on the text file or JSON file, then push it. So, I would like to see a lot of improvements here.""One feature I would like to see, that Firepower doesn't have, is email security. Perhaps in the future, Cisco will integrate Cisco Umbrella with Firepower. I don't see why we should have to pay for two separate products when both could be integrated in one box.""This product is managed using the Firepower Management Center (FMC), but it would be better if it also supported the command-line interface (CLI).""We cannot have virtual domains, which we can create with FortiGate. This is something they should add in the future. Additionally, there is a connection limit and the FMC could improve.""Its interface is sometimes is a little bit slow, and it can be improved. When you need to put your appliance in failover mode, it is a little difficult to do it remotely because you need to turn off the appliance in Cisco mode. In terms of new features, it would be good to have AnyConnect VPN with Firepower. I am not sure if it is available at the moment."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"Price-wise, it could be slightly better, however, if you compared it to other makes and models of equal category, it is generally cheaper.""The key activation is very complicated at times.""It needs an Application Inspection.""Some issues with connecting to the VPN from home after firmware updates.""Compatibility and integration with other products or vendors such as Cisco SD-WAN products need improvement.""The user interface needs to be improved.""I have had a data issue with physical devices that could improve.""It is difficult to size the VM in terms of machine resources, and for this reason, clients prefer the appliance."

More Fortinet FortiGate-VM Cons »

"There are limitations to bandwidth management.""I would like to see the reporting opened up and have several more opportunities for automatic reports."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""This product is expensive.""When we purchased the firewall, we had to take the security license for IPS, malware protection, and VPN. If we are using high availability, we have to take a license for that. We also have to pay for hardware support and technical support. Its licensing is on a yearly basis.""There are additional implementation and validation costs.""Its pricing is good and competitive. There is a maintenance cost. It includes SecureX that makes it cost-effective as compared to the other solutions where you have to pay for XDR and SOAR capabilities.""Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."

"There is no additional cost. Once you get the licensing fee, you're good.""The price could be lower.""With Fortinet FortiGate-VM you can bring your own licensing, or it can be paid on a yearly basis.""The cost of this product is too high.""The customer must buy his own license.""There should be a reduction in the setup price and licensing costs.""Licensing is pretty standard. It's approximately 15% of the total cost per year as a subscription cost.""It's a mid-ranged product."

"Our initial purchase, which included a three-year term of support, was about $25,000 USD.""We are currently using the trial version."
