We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"This product is definitely scalable.""The usage in general is pretty good.""LinkGreat firewall capabilities""From the firewall perspective, the rules and policies are very sufficient and easy to use.""It blocks the vulnerabilities that can negatively impact us.""FortiGate has a strong security topic which allows all of the Fortinet devices to communicate and share information which makes their security more powerful.""The SD-WAN function is very developed. It has SD-WAN functionality with security features in one device. We can manage from one single console SD-WAN and the security policy.""Valuable features include the Web Application Firewall, and it even has DLP (data leak prevention)."

"The solution can scale well.""The solution is stable.""The product can scale.""This product is affordable and it's a good, high-performance appliance.""Fortinet-VM is more scalable than the hardware version. If you're using an appliance, there are limitations in terms of hardware specs. So if you want a more scalable firewall, you can get a VM and install it on a high-end server.""The initial setup was quite straightforward.""Web filtering and the IPS functionality.""The platform has a good user interface."

"I like that it works fine. Stormshield is a very good solution.""The scalability of the solution is good.""Ease of use is the best feature of the product.""The most valuable features are the IPS, the firewall function, and the price.""The solution has improved my organization because I can see what traffic is happening and I can use it to block and prevent attacks.""I like how you can configure the rules. There is the task for the rules and a task for the network configuration. It also provides SMD filtering, and it can be integrated with the active directory for the users, their mission, and the VPN configuration. We are here in Sudan, and Stormshield didn't work in Sudan for more than a decade. Stormshield is a very strong firewall and very easy to configure and maintain. I am just working with the firewall solution, and we don't have any other solutions like endpoint solutions or something like that.""I can see what traffic is going on. I can easily block any programs from attacks.""This solution is quick and easy to configure."

Cons
"I'm not sure if it's something that they already have or are developing something, however, we need some dedicated features for container security.""We sometimes have issues with FortiGate's routing table in the latest firmware update. We had to downgrade the device because our customers complained about bugs.""It is quite new for us, and we need to go more in-depth into the monitoring tools. It provides different features that we need to do what we want. So far, it is okay for us. In terms of improvement, in the future, they can provide a faster implementation of features. Some of the features are first available in other solutions. Fortinet sometimes takes a little bit longer than other solutions, such as Check Point, to implement new features.""In terms of what could be improved, the SD-WAN is quite difficult, because if you install the new box, 15 is okay, but if you change from an old configuration, if there is already configuration and a policy when you change to SD-WAN, you must change the whole policy that you see in the interface.""A couple of things I've seen that need improvement, especially in terms of a hard coding. The driver-level active moment really is out-of-the-box and we have to have contact the customer support and sometimes it is difficult to resolve.""It can be a little bit more user-friendly in terms of policy definition and implementation. It seems a little bit complicated, and it could be simplified.""The room for improvement is about the global delivery time period. Usually I need to wait for almost one month to deliver it overseas. So if you can shorten the deliver time it'd be great.""FortiLink is the interface on the firewall that allows you to extend switch management across all of your switches in the network. The problem with it is that you can't use multiple interfaces unless you set them up in a lag. Only then you can run them. So, it forces you to use a core type of switch to propagate that management out to the rest of the switches, and then it is running the case at 200. It leaves you with 18 ports on the firewall because it is also a layer-three router that could also be used as a switch, but as soon as you do that, you can't really use them. They could do a little bit more clean up in the way the stacking interface works. Some use cases and the documentation on the FortiLink checking interface are a little outdated. I can find stuff on version 5 or more, but it is hard to find information on some of the newer firmware. The biggest thing I would like to see is some improvement in the switch management feature. I would like to be able to relegate some of the ports, which are on the firewall itself, to act as a switch to take advantage of those ports. Some of these firewalls have clarity ports on them. If I can use those, it would mean that I need to buy two less switches, which saves time. I get why they don't, but I would still like to see it because it would save a little bit of space in the server rack."

"We encountered scalability issues in IPSec Module. The tunnels freeze sometimes.""Data backup functionality could be included in the product.""The licensing needs to be improved. We need longer licensing periods, especially for POCs and trials. It should be for six months. Right now, it's too short of a timeframe.""They could simplify the troubleshooting process.""The stability could be improved. I find Cisco to be more stable than Fortigate, which is I major differentiator between the two.""If I could add one feature, it would be free security profiles.""The interface of the solution could be improved.""The block, the clarity, the quarantine command, is not very user-friendly. You would have to do everything through the command line and I would have preferred if it wasn't a CLI."

"The filtering configuration could be better. We have some difficulties with the filtering configuration and the filter extension. It's not that easy. It's not that straightforward. In the next release, I would like to see a reporting system. Stormshield doesn't have any tutorials on how to do the configuration and things like that. They just have documentation on the website. If you want to configure, for example, Cisco or Fortinet, you can find tutorials on YouTube. They show you how to configure the features, and so on. In Stormshield, there is nothing on social media or the internet on how to configure different things. The lack of documentation or the lack of material makes it difficult for others to adopt this solution.""This is not a next-generation firewall.""This solution has a big problem with web filtering and it needs to be improved.""A more user-friendly interface would be helpful.""The biggest issue was their support department was not able to help us, then everything stops. This is a no-go area for me.""Stormshield Network Security is quite expensive.""With Stormshield, there are difficulties joining things, and it can be complex depending on the architecture.""The SD card could be more secure."

Pricing and Cost Advice

  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."

  • "It is on par with what you receive. It can be expensive upfront."
