We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The implementation is pretty straightforward.""If you compare the ASA and the FirePOWER, the best feature with FirePOWER is easy to use GUI. It has most of the same functionality in the Next-Generation FirePOWER, such as IPS, IPS policies, security intelligence, and integration and identification of all the devices or hardware you have in your network. Additionally, this solution is user-friendly.""I have access to the web version of Cisco Talos to see the reputation of IP addresses. I find this very helpful. It provides important information for my company to obtain the reputation of IP addresses. The information in Talos is quite complete.""Being able to determine our active users vs inactive users has led us to increased productivity through visibility. Also, if an issue was happening with our throughput, then we wouldn't know without research. Now, notifications are more proactively happening.""I like the firewall features, Snort, and the Intrusion Prevention System (IPS).""The most important feature is the intensive way you can troubleshoot Cisco Firepower Firewalls. You can go to the bit level to see why traffic is not handled in the correct way, and the majority of the time it's a networking issue and not a firewall issue. You can solve any problem without Cisco TAC help, because you can go very deeply under the hood to find out how traffic is flowing and whether it is not flowing as expected. That is something I have never seen with other brands.""I have experience with URL filtering, and it is very good for URL filtering. You can filter URLs based on the categories, and it does a good job. It can also do deep packet inspection.""The most valuable features of this solution are advanced malware protection, IPS, and IDS."

"There are many useful features, such as web security and advanced threat detection.""The main features I find useful are intrusion prevention and web filtering. Additionally, the solution is easy to manage.""It is more robust than SonicWall, particularly on the VPN from site to site.""The solution is very user friendly.""Performance-wise, I think FortiOS is much better than its Juniper counterpart. Based on our actual experience and performance metrics, FortiOS-based products are much better than Juniper.""The information security features are the most valuable.""Has a very simple OS and a good price point.""I personally think the site-to-site VPN is the most useful feature. A lot of firewalls have that, but to me, that's one of the features that's essential."

"Easy to set up and easy to integrate.""All features are useful. We are using premium features such as bandwidth sharing, failover, web filters, SSL controls, antivirus, and VPN. We use these features to the fullest. These features are available in the paid firewall license, not the free one.""The most valuable features are IPS, MAPI, NAT, and VPN.""They have a command center that makes it easy to log into and see all of your appliances nationwide.""Its detection, antivirus, and filtering features are the most valuable. The facility to connect by using the VPN connection is also a very valuable feature. It is very strong, secure, and reliable. We have implemented the Untangle solution in all hardware. It is also a user-friendly solution. It is easy to learn and easy to configure."

Cons
"The initial setup was a bit complex. It wasn't a major challenge, but due to our requirements and network, it was not very straightforward but still easy enough.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""The visibility for VPN is one big part. The policy administration could be improved in terms of customizations and flexibility for changing it to our needs.""One of the few things that are brought up is that for the overall management, it would be great to have a cloud instance of that. And not only just a cloud instance, but one of the areas that we've looked at is using an HA type of cloud. To have the ability to have a device file within a cloud. If we had an issue with one, the other one would pick up automatically.""Report generation is an area that should be improved.""It's mainly the UI and the management parts that need improvement. The most impactful feature when you're using it is the user interface and the user experience.""I would like it to have faster deployment times. A typical deployment could take two to three minutes. Sometimes, it depends on the situation. It is better than it was in the past, but it could always use improvement.""The Firepower FTD code is missing some old ASA firewalls codes. It's a small thing. But Firepower software isn't missing things that are essential, anymore."

"Technical support could be better. Some competitors have much more responsive support teams.""The implementation could be simplified.""Lacks flexibility for different scenario configurations.""Fortinet needs to make this solution even more robust. Sometimes when we get a DDoS attack, the cannot withstand it. We can run out of sessions very easily. That said, I suppose if you want more a robust system, then you could purchase higher-end solutions, which are more expensive. Still, I would like to see more protection from even in the low-end version.""The pricing model makes this product far more expensive than similar solutions.""They're using a lot of application-specific IC, so that may be causing some performance issues. And whenever a Fortinet adds new features, it can affect performance.""The solution could improve by making the dashboard easier to use.""The reporting and monitoring could improve, they have a lot of limitations. The monitoring is not easy compared to the other firewall."

More Fortinet FortiOS Cons »

"They don't have any feature that allows you to drop the session.""The common center facility that Untangle provides should be available on-premises. There are great corporations here in Mexico that like the Untangle solution, but they don't like the fact that the monitoring and access to the appliance are in the cloud. They request for the common center facility to be available and installed on-premises.""Web-filtering policies could be improved.""The pricing should be reduced because it is expensive.""We seek the availability of the hardware in our region. The hardware-based firewall from Untangle is currently not available in our region. It should have threat protection on a real-time basis. This feature, available in Check Point and Sandstorm kind of scenario, is currently missing in Untangle NG Firewall."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"There are additional implementation and validation costs.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""This product is expensive.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The support contracts are usually about $100 - $200 a device.""The software costs roughly half what the hardware costs. Overall, the product is expensive.""There is a license required for the solution and the price is fair.""The price of Fortinet FortiOS has been reasonable."

More Fortinet FortiOS Pricing and Cost Advice »

"It is not expensive. It is cheaper than Fortinet.""The pricing model is better than with SonicWall.""It is not expensive. The best part is that it is based on the pay-per-use kind of scenario. An increase or decrease in the number of people doesn't make any difference. We are really happy about using this particular scenario."
