Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Sentinel is a Microsoft product, so they provide very robust use cases and analytic groups, which are very beneficial for the security team. I also like the ability to integrate data sources into the software for on-premise and cloud-based solutions.""Microsoft Sentinel enables you to ingest data from the entire ecosystem and that connection of data helps you to monitor critical resources and to know what's happening in the environment.""There are some very powerful features to Sentinel, such as the integration of various connectors. We have a lot of departments that use both IaaS and SaaS services, including M365 as well as Azure services. The ability to leverage connectors into these environments allows for large-scale data injection.""Free ingestion for Azure logs (with E5 licence)""Native integration with Microsoft security products or other Microsoft software is also crucial. For example, we can integrate Sentinel with Office 365 with one click. Other integrations aren't as easy. Sometimes, we have to do it manually.""It has basic out-of-the-box integrations with multiple log sources.""The data connectors that Microsoft Sentinel provides are easy to integrate when we work with a Microsoft agent.""The most valuable feature is the UEBA. It's very easy for a security operations analyst. It has a one-touch analysis where you can search for a particular entity, and you can get a complete overview of that entity or user."

"The most valuable features for us are the built-in reports and alerts, along with the extreme flexibility in reporting and rule generation.""We like the integration of all of these Fortinet platforms together. Everything is integrated well, and we are able to sell that as a service to our customers.""The ability to write my own parsers for the devices that are not supported by Fortinet is the most valuable feature.""The solution’s IP database is awesome.""It's easy to manage. There's a web interface and a command line, depending on what the user is comfortable with. There's a large knowledge base available, and the support is timely.""It's very easy for anyone to work with.""One of the most valuable features is that we can combine SOC and NOC operations in the same tool. We can provide NOC and SOC services in the same tool for two separate teams. There are plenty of third-party solutions that integrate with FortiSIEM. All these solutions already have a ready integration, and we have the possibility to create a custom connector for these solutions. Its reports are also very good.""To add workers and even collectors is pretty easy."

"The most valuable feature of OmniPeek is the ability to assign custom color codes to the different packets easily.""The most valuable features are the voice bot, which checks the quality of service for voice, and the expert view that gives me insight on what and where to troubleshoot.""I believe the most crucial feature of OmniPeek search is the ability to sniff packets based on channel switching.""It's a solid piece of software. It's stable.""The most valuable feature is OmniPeek is user-friendly.""The most valuable feature of OmniPeek was the ability it gave us to see the connection procedure."

Cons
"Microsoft Defender has a built-in threat expert option that enables you to contact an expert. That feature isn't available in Sentinel because it's a huge product that integrates all the technologies. I would like Microsoft to add the threat expert option so we can contact them. There are a few other features, like threat assessment that the PG team is working on. I expect them to release this feature in the next quarter.""If Azure Sentinel had the ability to ingest Azure services from different tenants into another tenant that was hosting Azure Sentinel, and not lose any metadata, that would be a huge benefit to a lot of companies.""Microsoft Sentinel is relatively expensive, and its cost should be improved.""There is some relatively advanced knowledge that you have to have to properly leverage Sentinel's full capabilities. I'm thinking about things like the creation of workbooks, how you do threat-hunting, and the kinds of notifications you're getting... It takes time for people to ramp up on that and develop a familiarity or expertise with it.""Improvement-wise, I would like to see more integration with third-party solutions or old-school antivirus products that have some kind of logging capability. I wouldn't mind having that exposed within Sentinel. We do have situations where certain companies have bought licensing or have made an investment in a product, and that product will be there for the next two or three years. To be able to view information from those legacy products would be great. We can then better leverage the Sentinel solution and its capabilities.""The dashboards can be improved. Creating dashboards is very easy, but the visualizations are not as good as Microsoft Power BI. People who are using Microsoft Power BI do not like Sentinel's dashboards.""Currently, the watchlist feature is being utilized, and although there have been improvements, it is still not fully optimized.""They should just add more and more out-of-the-box connectors. It is quite a new product, and it has a lot of connectors, and even more would be good."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"They could work on their documentation. If there's anything about the solution that needs improvement, it's that. For example, documentation already is on a very high level but specifically on the CLI there are tons of features which can be fine-tuned and thousands of commands are very difficult to document. If they could make this easier, it would improve the overall solution.""Their product support, in general, is not that great. The product support is in the same ecosystem. Their support is improving but it's not that great.vvv""I would like to see more integration with other platforms.""The policy editing should be easier. Right now, it's too hard.""When our team tried configuring logs for Microsoft SQL, it did not work.""It lacks a "wizard" that shows a particular user's activity or particular circumstance. I think the interface is intimidating because there's so much information there.""Patching is not great - we're not getting the support we'd expect.""The performance can be improved. Sometimes it takes a long time to fetch data."

More Fortinet FortiSIEM Cons →

"The solution's automation has room for improvement.""Making it more clear on how to configure the filters, or really automating them, would be an improvement.""I would like to see the saving feature improved. We have had issues if you do not save your progress then you have to start from the beginning.""I would like to see the tool work in an open environment the same as how it does in a closed environment.""I am not using OmniPeek for automation, we only do manual testing. Automation testing is tedious to do. The automation should be more user-friendly. I have exposed some APIs but the usage is not user-friendly.""I don't see a clear roadmap in the future for improving this software."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."
  • More Microsoft Sentinel Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Please be cheaper and more simplified."
  • "We bought the perpetual license, so we own the product, but there is a three-year support renewal fee for that."
  • "Pricing is acceptable for more than 90% of our customers, as they normally get discounts."
  • "Its price can be better. We are Fortinet partners, so we can get discounts, but its price can be an issue at the beginning for others. There is a licensing scheme for every case. There are three licensing schemes that we can choose from."
  • "The price of Fortinet FortiSIEM is a lot less when compared to other solutions."
  • "They have a yearly subscription."
  • "The solution is available for both, perpetual and subscription licenses."
  • "Manageable, however would be better as pay as you go versus CapEX."
  • More Fortinet FortiSIEM Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing for this solution could be improved, as it is a very expensive product."
  • "There are different types of licenses available."
  • "We have only purchased the add-on once and have not paid for any subsequent versions as it was too costly for us."
