Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The Log analytics are useful.""It's easy to use. It's a very good product. It can easily ingest data from anywhere. It has an easily understandable language to perform actions.""Azure Application Gateway makes things a lot easier. You can create dashboards, alert rules, hunting and custom queries, and functions with it.""The most valuable features are its threat handling and detection. It's a powerful tool because it's based on machine learning and on the behavior of malware.""Mainly, this is a cloud-native product. So, there are zero concerns about managing the whole infrastructure on-premises.""It is able to connect to an ever-growing number of platforms and systems within the Microsoft ecosystem, such as Azure Active Directory and Microsoft 365 or Office 365, as well as to external services and systems that can be brought in and managed. We can manage on-premises infrastructure. We can manage not just the things that are running in Azure in the public cloud, but through Azure Arc and the hybrid capabilities, we can monitor on-premises servers and endpoints. We can monitor VMware infrastructure, for instance, running as part of a hybrid environment.""I like the ability to run custom KQL queries. I don't know if that feature is specific to Sentinel. As far as I know, they are using technology built into Azure's Log Analytics app. Sentinel integrates with that, and we use this functionality heavily.""It has a lot of great features."

"Analytics is the most valuable feature. The business service summaries in the dashboards and the correlations for the SIEM are also valuable features.""Analytics. It can provide log information from the device. With log information, I can see if there is a threat""Technical support is helpful.""The most valuable features for us are the built-in reports and alerts, along with the extreme flexibility in reporting and rule generation.""The solution is very stable. It's run for years without the need to do anything except, add new patches when they are available, which are always a good idea to install.""The solution is easy to use and user-friendly.""I like the various options, including the option for CMDB and the easier access to create rules, playbooks, or use cases. It's also easier to use for creating dashboards and reports.""It's a very nice solution to work with."

More Fortinet FortiSIEM Pros →

"The product has the best features for ITSM.""SummitAI IT Management Suite's chat box feature has reduced our service discount, and because it's intelligent, the responses that go out to the users have improved, and the resolutions are much faster.""It was easy to access and fast. Our experience using it solely as a ticketing tool. We used fetch reports from the tool, particularly with regard to SLA tracking for our partners.""The most valuable feature is remote access. People are working from home, and we can take remote access through it."

Cons
"Microsoft Sentinel should provide an alternative query language to KQL for users who lack KQL expertise.""We are invoiced according to the amount of data generated within each log.""I can't think of anything other than just getting the name out there. I think a lot of customers don't fully understand the full capabilities of Azure Sentinel yet. It is kind of like when they're first starting to use Azure, it might not be something they first think about. So, they should just kind of get to the point where it is more widely used.""Microsoft Defender has a built-in threat expert option that enables you to contact an expert. That feature isn't available in Sentinel because it's a huge product that integrates all the technologies. I would like Microsoft to add the threat expert option so we can contact them. There are a few other features, like threat assessment that the PG team is working on. I expect them to release this feature in the next quarter.""The AI capabilities must be improved.""When it comes to ingesting Azure native log sources, some of the log sources are specific to the subscription, and it is not always very clear.""Improvement-wise, I would like to see more integration with third-party solutions or old-school antivirus products that have some kind of logging capability. I wouldn't mind having that exposed within Sentinel. We do have situations where certain companies have bought licensing or have made an investment in a product, and that product will be there for the next two or three years. To be able to view information from those legacy products would be great. We can then better leverage the Sentinel solution and its capabilities.""The only thing is sometimes you can have a false positive."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"FortiSIEM is not a market leader in the SIEM space.""The policy editing should be easier. Right now, it's too hard.""Not very good on non-API features, lacks that functionality.""An improvement would be if FortiSIEM's licensing was based on the number of nodes rather than the EPS.""I would like to see easier implementation in the future.""The only drawback is the licensing model. It can get expensive if you want to integrate more solutions.""The backup and recovery process for this solution needs improvement.""Sometimes, if there are changes made by a user on a database server, it can be difficult to get that information on the fly. I would like to see a situation where once I specify a user with the database server I need, and with the changes they have performed on that, I don't need to continue my search pattern to drill down just to get the information."

More Fortinet FortiSIEM Cons →

"Integration was a major limitation with SummitAI.""SummitAI IT Management Suite's project management and operational management features could be improved.""I would like them to add software inventory in the next release. We don't have that right now.""There could be flexibility in terms of customization."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."
  • More Microsoft Sentinel Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Please be cheaper and more simplified."
  • "We bought the perpetual license, so we own the product, but there is a three-year support renewal fee for that."
  • "Pricing is acceptable for more than 90% of our customers, as they normally get discounts."
  • "Its price can be better. We are Fortinet partners, so we can get discounts, but its price can be an issue at the beginning for others. There is a licensing scheme for every case. There are three licensing schemes that we can choose from."
  • "The price of Fortinet FortiSIEM is a lot less when compared to other solutions."
  • "They have a yearly subscription."
  • "The solution is available for both, perpetual and subscription licenses."
  • "Manageable, however would be better as pay as you go versus CapEX."
  • More Fortinet FortiSIEM Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "We have a regular license."
  • "SummitAI IT Management Suite's pricing is a bit expensive."
  • "The product's cost is average."
