Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like several features that this product has, such as antivirus and internet navigation inspection. It is also simple to use.""We use the FortiGate Sandbox to detect zero-day vulnerabilities, such as anomalies or malware, that are unknown and have not yet been discovered.""The integration with Active Directory is one of the good features. Most of the customers are now looking for the Single Sign-on feature. So, being able to integrate Active Directory with the firewall is useful. It is also easy.""The dashboard I have found the most valuable in Fortinet FortiGate.""I am "headache free" that I don't have to categorize all the websites and that security has been pre categorized by the people, and that the services are getting updated. At least one part of my problem is over.""Fortinet FortiGate's reliability is valuable.""It is easy to manage, and it doesn't need much knowledge from the team. It is a stable device, and there are many features that are included out of the box.""Unified Threat Management (UTM) features."

"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""The most valuable feature of the Hillstone E-Series is its user-friendliness.""Working with the Hillstone E-Series has, from a remote perspective, allowed me to give my clients a secure connectivity.""I am impressed with the application filtering feature.""The installation is easy, we have not had any complaints from our customers.""The initial setup was straightforward. It only took a few hours to deploy.""Five out of five ROI.""This solution has two main features that we find very valuable; a threat-intelligence option, and a web/application filtering option. The technical support team are very good and very quick."

"The firewall and intrusion detection features are very useful these days because hackers have a lot of tricks that they use to get into a system. With Kerio Control you can see something that's happening. Otherwise, you have to use other tools to see what's happening on the firewalls. Having IPS in it is quite useful for us.""The firewall and the content filtering options are valuable.""The top features are ones that we're not using yet but we soon will be because we've just had broadband upgraded in Australia. We've got something called the National Broadband Network, which is forced onto you, so you have to take it when it arrives. We'll be trying the high availability out soon. We tried that with some load balancing, it didn't quite work as we expected, but I think that was more of a configuration thing rather than a product thing.""The solution is easy to manage. Kerio Control is unique compared to other firewalls because it has been around since 2000 when we switched and the name it started with was WinRoute, and then later became Kerio Control. It evolved over time and it is more of a proprietary firewall on its own and has been developed through open source.""I am impressed with the tool's firewall filtering capacity.""What I like the most about Kerio is that I can use the software appliance as a solution, so if the hardware fails for any reason then I can quickly replace it with hardware that I have in stock.""We also like the security. We can control what sites users can go to and we can make sure that where they're going is appropriate and that it's work-related.""I did not face any issues with stability while using the tool's trial version."

Cons
"The renewal price and the availability could be improved.""Palo Alto has a feature called WildFire Analysis that is unavailable in FortiGate. WildFire is better than a sandbox because it can address zero-day threats and vulnerabilities. It can immediately identify zero-day threats from the cloud.""Pricing for it is a bit high. It could be cheaper.""Fortinet FortiGate could improve if it had a cloud-managed solution.""The Web-filter in this solution is not very good.""The non-error conserve mode has room for improvement.""Maybe they could make some features more accessible, such as a way to translate directions between two networks that share the same subnets.""I would like some automated custom reporting."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"Having frequent live webinars on a monthly basis would really help.""The current usage reporting is very basic.""The solution doesn't have a web proxy built into the system like Sophos. This is something they should work to change.""SSL VPN license cost is not cheap.""The tool provides just a general report. It does not provide a granular report. Hence, the tool should work on its reporting feature.""Support from Hillstone E-Series has a shortcoming that needs improvement.""I am not sure if this solution offers active directory integration. Adding that feature will definitely be an advantage.""The tool needs to improve its price."

More Hillstone E-Series Cons →

"One of the problems we do have causes problems with the VPN. The software slows the throughput down too much. You could have a one-gigabit connection from the internet, and it slows it down to the area of upload and download is extremely slow. There's too much content filtering at that point.""The improvement that we are looking for is for when decide to move some part of our application to the cloud.""We'd like to have more integrations Kerio Operator.""Support responses need improvement.""Kerio Control could improve by having higher availability and adding a mobile VPN channel. These additions are needed. The VPN is working fine on the Kerio Control but there needs to be a VPN client on the mobile phones, both for iOS and Android. This would be very good for us.""There isn't a lot to be improved. It works well as it is, but they can maybe improve the reporting side.""The one thing that did put me off of the solution was that, after they were taken over by GFI, the licensing and a few other items have gotten very complicated.""The VPN features are the ones that we really like, but we are using a VPN client to be able to use them. We would like to have an SSL implementation for this same feature so we don't need to install anything on the client side. That's a feature I really miss and that should really be embedded in the product. We really would love to use it via a web browser."

    Reviews from Real Users

Here is some feedback from some of our users who are currently using the solution:

PeerSpot user Brian C., Senior Technology Specialist, VP at Unified Technology Solutions, writes "It is very comprehensive and simple. It has all the active protections. It's updated. We love that you can set how often it is updated so you can work on what is right for you. A large company with a lot of bandwidth can update the virus definitions and security definitions hourly, if they want. A smaller site that's remote, where maybe updating the definitions will eat into the bandwidth, we can schedule those more to go later at night. It's very flexible and works for us in all types of situations. This is great because then we don't have to learn seven different products to be able to work with seven different scenarios."

Andy D., IT Manager at Flare Technologies, praises how easy it is to use and says, "One thing we use quite a lot, as well, is the DHCP Server, because we do a lot of work where all our devices need to have static IP addresses. Rather than going around and configuring every box, we do it all through DHCP reservations. It's easier. We've got a record of it. We can manipulate it if we need to change something or change some hardware. It's all easy. Even guys who are not used to using it can pick it up quite quickly."
