We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It also provides a seamless and efficient solution for personal storage requirements, showcasing the versatility and scalability of my Virtual SAN configuration.""The available GUI is excellent for monitoring and operating the system in an easy and direct way.""We test live failovers every week, and so far, everything has been running smoothly without anything unexpected.""StarWind Virtual SAN is a highly flexible solution, as it can be deployed on physical servers or on top of virtual machines running on hypervisors such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V.""StarWind Virtual SAN is a very mature software that supersedes its capabilities with my use cases.""It also provides a high degree of mobility, as the virtual SAN can be moved relatively painlessly between on-site devices and the cloud.""A typical system administrator with minimal experience in Hyper-V, VMware, or Windows can do VSAN configuration and maintain VSAN operations.""StarWind vSAN is a great solution to create a redundant two-node-only Hyper-V cluster, both for domain or workgroup scenarios."

"The replication technology can move data faster than EMC MirrorView and requires less bandwidth. The Storage Virtualization technology is the most mature in the market, outside of IBM’s Storwize (which has a lot of compatibility issues, and EMC’s very expensive VPLEX solution); and it works.""In our implementations, HDS Storage Virtualization has helped in migrating data with the least amount of downtime, compared to other storage technologies.""This solution allowed us to move from using standalone systems to having all our data center management in one place."

"We have the ability to increase the storage without any additional costs.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI is stable.""Very good in-line compression.""Nimble is easy to use, but hard to install. Once it's installed, it's user-friendly. Reporting is another advantage because we get a lot of statistical forecasting. It helps us see into the future with that.""We have this feature in Nimble dHCI, wherein we can upgrade individual components in the infrastructure.""Artificial intelligence is built into the product. If there's a failure, HP support will proactively call the client about the issue.""The latency is very low.""I love InfoSite. That gets you a lot of good detailed information."

Cons
"We ran into an issue with alerts.""I had to buy upgraded support, which was not a problem, but it wasn't a prorated amount, so I paid for the support, the full upgrade, but I only got a couple of months out of it because it was only good until renewal time.""I would like to see some additional, and possibly clearer, implementation videos with some slower and possibly more detailed descriptions of what the various steps of implementation are for someone who is unfamiliar with high availability and failover clustering in Windows.""I had issues locating the documentation that applied to my version of StarWind vSAN.""Though I have learned some of the nuances with the upgrading of firmware/windows/etc., it would be nice to have a more efficient method of doing so.""I found that certain browsers are not fully compatible with the administration web access portal.""It would be great if it provided thin provisioned virtual disks.""It would be great to have more automated tooling around managing the iSCSI connections in Windows"

"An update to its technology would be good. The G Series has been around for more than five years and HDS seriously needs to ramp up, since the competition has better performance at a lower cost with better features and functionalities. For example, it needs redirect on write Snapshot, preconfigured storage tiering with better IOPS, built-in deduplication technology on hybrid disk, etc.""HDS reaches a ceiling depending on model. The G200 cannot transition to G400, the G400 can transition to G600 but cannot transition to G800, which is the top-end model.""An area for improvement would be technical support. In the next release, I would like to see more features added to make this a more complete solution."

"The product's active controller feature needs improvement.""I rate Nimble one out of 10 for ease of setup. Setting up Nimble Storage was a nightmare. It took us three months to deal with all the kinks and bugs. We had two people from HPE assisting us and two from our team.""Nimble Storage's integration with the management software could be better.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI only works with a hypervisor like VMware. There are plenty of other hypervisors that HP doesn't support. This is an area for improvement.""They should improve just the support.""The performance of HPE Nimble Storage dHCI could improve. Other solutions, such as Cisco, are better.""This year 2022, we have the possibility to include new kinds of storage with a high disk availability, such as Alletra 6000 and Alletra 9000. Those are the new storage available. If we would like to improve the quality and the capability and the high availability of these products, we can choose between different costs. This is another benefit from this HPE Nimble Storage dHCI solution of hyper-converged.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI's website does not open properly or work consistently."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The setup cost is very low. The pricing is great."
  • "We are happy with the price."
  • "The license is reusable. We can always rebuild it and apply the license. Then, boom, we get new servers, apply the license, and we're back up and running."
  • "The pricing is fine for the work that it does."
  • "When we did all the analysis for StarWind, it was approximately 20 percent less than any of the other solutions that we looked at."
  • "The scalability limitation for us is its licensing. At some point in the fairly near future, we will probably have to upgrade our license so we can store eight terabytes instead of four. We are currently at four terabytes, but we're starting to knock on the door of that capacity."
  • "The pricing is excellent. It will run on anything. You don't have to buy a $100,000 server, with hardware you don't need. You just pay for the license and you're good to go."
  • "The licensing is a bit weird. If you license the standard version of StarWind, it allows you four terabytes. Then, they have a pro version, but with the pro version, the only difference is it doubles the terabytes to eight."
