Quotes From Members Comparing HPE 3PAR Flash Storage vs Tegile

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
The optimization features move chunklets or hot spots to faster drives. The 3PAR tool is cheaper to maintain with more storage available.Previously, we were using EVA from HPE. When we moved to 3PAR, we noticed a reduction in footprint, reduced by more than 30%. We use the Adaptive Optimization, giving us a reduction in cost and with better performance.Since it's being used to support a virtual infrastructure, that gives us access to all of the benefits of a virtual infrastructure. So, instead of spending hours trying to rebuild or to fix a broken server, we can instead wipe it out and throw up a new one and we're up and running again.I like the speed capabilities that it provides. The deduplication features definitely have some huge potential. The latest firmware, where they've enabled compression for workloads that aren't very good for deduplication, I can definitely see huge potential there. It provides very fast deployment. The performance for our most critical applications is very quick. Thanks to HPE remote IT assistance, they can do the updates with the configuration in best-case scenario. It is easy to scale, easy to manage, and easy to configure.

EasyTier/hotcaching: Valuable because it allows greater performance than standard SAS disksIt provides a combination of all the protocols that you need, without losing deduplication and compression.Data Compression: Up to 80% space reduction in the databaseHigh performance and ease-of-management are the most valuable features. It has reduced our electricity usage by reducing the amount of disks needed for the virtual environment.

Cons
The management interface is not intuitive.Extending is not a problem, scalability is okay. But once you buy additional box of disks, you have to wait for HPE to contact you with their plan for implementation, for connecting, and it can take several weeks. So, you have the box and you have to wait for several weeks to actually implement it.I would like to see more virtualization: storage virtualization, data virtualization would be very nice.HPE has a product that I am very interested in, but it lacks of integration with 3PAR - HPE SimpliVity.I would like them to improve it so I can do firmware upgrades without downtime.Would like to see some management functions through a web interface.Generally, the management of the multiple systems that we have is really the only problem, always having to go to all these separate tools to manage everything. We would like to see the ability to not only be integrated with hybrid IT, but on-prem.

We had just one small stability problem with power flapping and it did not start up again automatically. We had to access service ports and manually restart the storage processors. In the proxy section you can’t choose a user account and password, so it is not allowed at the moment to go out, if customer has such constellation. It only keeps one hour of real-time data without the ability to do deep analysis of each element.Snapshots are not as easy to access as on a NetApp device. They need to offer better integration for a virtual platform to enable you to create hyper-converged solution.

Pricing and Cost Advice
As a school, we always have low budgets. We are a nonprofit organization. We do not have too much budget, so we care about prices, discounts, and especially about the product quality. The last 16 years, we have been an HPE customer. We are very much happy with HPE products.Nowadays, from a storage point of view, there are so many vendors in the market. So cost is one of the factors that pushed us to go with HPE 3PAR. Cost-wise they're pretty competitive. The main issue with 3PAR right now is its cost problem. Right now, there are some other storage cabinets that can do what 3PAR can do. Now, they can do it as well with a more revised budget. To be more competitive, as customer, we need a more aggressive price that includes all the licenses available. It's very reliable and it was cost competitive with other arrays at the time that we purchased it.

I recommend the full bundle software in order to have all the functionality. It is more expensive to purchase it one by one.
