Quotes From Members Comparing HPE 3PAR Flash Storage vs Tintri VMstore

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
The optimization features move chunklets or hot spots to faster drives. The 3PAR tool is cheaper to maintain with more storage available.Previously, we were using EVA from HPE. When we moved to 3PAR, we noticed a reduction in footprint, reduced by more than 30%. We use the Adaptive Optimization, giving us a reduction in cost and with better performance.Since it's being used to support a virtual infrastructure, that gives us access to all of the benefits of a virtual infrastructure. So, instead of spending hours trying to rebuild or to fix a broken server, we can instead wipe it out and throw up a new one and we're up and running again.I like the speed capabilities that it provides. The deduplication features definitely have some huge potential. The latest firmware, where they've enabled compression for workloads that aren't very good for deduplication, I can definitely see huge potential there. It provides very fast deployment. The performance for our most critical applications is very quick. Thanks to HPE remote IT assistance, they can do the updates with the configuration in best-case scenario. It is easy to scale, easy to manage, and easy to configure.

The Deduplication feature in VDI environments. If Tintri says we can host 3000 VMs in our storage, I know we can host 3000 VMs there. Believe the results. You can control resources on a per VM basis to ensure that contention in resources does not hamper performance.Fast deployment for virtual machinesIt is a set and forget environment with a very good tooling to view performance and delivers the IOPS we need for our VDI environment.Performance, cost, and ease of storage management. The management dashboards keep improving and allow for quick and easy tracing of issues.Simplicity of installation and management, high IOPS, management per VM, QoS, power and space saving. It has easy setup, easy administration, and no LUNs!

Cons
The management interface is not intuitive.Extending is not a problem, scalability is okay. But once you buy additional box of disks, you have to wait for HPE to contact you with their plan for implementation, for connecting, and it can take several weeks. So, you have the box and you have to wait for several weeks to actually implement it.I would like to see more virtualization: storage virtualization, data virtualization would be very nice.HPE has a product that I am very interested in, but it lacks of integration with 3PAR - HPE SimpliVity.I would like them to improve it so I can do firmware upgrades without downtime.Would like to see some management functions through a web interface.Generally, the management of the multiple systems that we have is really the only problem, always having to go to all these separate tools to manage everything. We would like to see the ability to not only be integrated with hybrid IT, but on-prem.

I think with the world soon becoming only SSD, possibly NVMe, and 3D Xpoint. It would make sense for Tintri to drop the hybrid array down the line.Active/active cluster between two Tintris on Hyper-V cluster.Speed of our VDI machines. We have a very high log in and log out ratio and machines are being refreshed instantly so we have a constant boot storm on our storage.Tintri need to be able to innovate faster but maintain the quality of their features.More cloud integration. The Tintri OS and GlobalCenter software do a great job of showing you troubled VMs, however it still could be a bit more helpful in diagnosing the issues.

Pricing and Cost Advice
As a school, we always have low budgets. We are a nonprofit organization. We do not have too much budget, so we care about prices, discounts, and especially about the product quality. The last 16 years, we have been an HPE customer. We are very much happy with HPE products.Nowadays, from a storage point of view, there are so many vendors in the market. So cost is one of the factors that pushed us to go with HPE 3PAR. Cost-wise they're pretty competitive. The main issue with 3PAR right now is its cost problem. Right now, there are some other storage cabinets that can do what 3PAR can do. Now, they can do it as well with a more revised budget. To be more competitive, as customer, we need a more aggressive price that includes all the licenses available. It's very reliable and it was cost competitive with other arrays at the time that we purchased it.

The area it needs to improve is the pricing. It could be better. The licensing model is relatively simple. For things like replication, however, the licensing needs to be looked at.Prices are not cheap, but it runs.I think it is a very good solution. You get a good bang for buck.Always could be cheaper. The cost of all the SW is well spent because it makes you save on backup and DR.Performance for the price is amazing.
