Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is easier to create new dashboards in the New Relic interface, and it is also easier to query if when I want to monitor a different parameter or time duration on my dashboard.""The most valuable feature of New Relic APM is the dashboard, New Relic Insights. I configured my own dashboard to monitor certain parameters.""It has given us better insight into the performance of the system.""We were able to integrate with the messaging tool, Slack, which meant that we got notifications whenever something was not quite right.""The synthetic alert is the most valuable feature in New Relic APM. I also like the time travel feature and find traceability useful in the solution. New Relic APM also has good response times.""It allows the restriction of privileges and control of users.""Sometimes, I monitor the user's time of response and use this information to improve the number of servers on the back-end. Or, I can use it to change my back log for front-end developers and improve their response times. It's very important in this case because I can improve the experience of the final user.""The VPN is one of the solution's most valuable features for us."

"Automates processes and allows reports and statistics to improve the speed at which changes and assets are managed.""The stability has been very good over the years."

Cons
"They don't have an opportunity to share the dashboard with the public. If you want to share it with stakeholders or people outside the organization who just want to have a look at a couple of metrics, you can't do that without onboarding them to the product itself.""I would like to have storage monitoring. E.g., being able to monitor SANS, specifically protocols, like NFS and CIFS metrics.""They need to improve the alerting and dashboarding as these are the key features in DevOps.""It is very difficult to award the service level cycles at an endpoint level.""I would like an infrastructure network that provides real-time views, showing the issues.""The connectivity between legacy and newer cloud applications is not great.""I think that there have been some questionable product enhancements. Over a year ago, New Relic rolled out a new navigation that really disrupted our workflow.""One thing that we noticed was that historical information was only for a limited period, which was not helpful in certain scenarios. For example, if I want to size my system for an event for New Year or Christmas season based on the historical data, I won't be able to find the historical data. Currently, the data is limited to three months. It would be helpful if they can provide historical data for a longer duration so that we can plan our system accordingly."

"Product documentation is lacking, and sometimes, incorrect. Having better documentation will allow business analysts and data center personnel to rely on the Micro Focus help desk less.""The solution should offer better integration with other tools from a service management perspective."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
  • "The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
  • "Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
  • "It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly."
  • "If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity."
  • "I recommend using the free version of New Relic. If you like the free version and understand its importance for your company, you can move to the trial. Then, you can migrate to the paid version."
  • "There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high. The feature is very nice, but I tried it during the trial period, and the current price makes it impossible to use."
  • "They gave us aggressive discounts when they were brought in for the first time, but they have also kept them for the year-on-year renewals, which has been absolutely fine."
