We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN.""The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features.""There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint."

"Our customers have given very positive feedback about InfoSign, which is the management software for this solution.""In my opinion, HPE is making good progress and moving ahead with InfoSight, which is predictive analytics and artificial intelligence.""One of the most valuable features is the ease of deployment.""All of the capabilities of the hardware such as replication, snapshot, and the specific features are all included from the start as opposed to being on another license.""The features that I have found most valuable are the artificial intelligence for the storage inside of the software and firmware because customers do not like functionalities which require manual interruption.""The most important thing that we had found when we purchased this product around six months back was its 100% availability and uptime.""The performance is very good.""The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not overly complex."

"It uses the same platform for connectivity so integration is seamless.""The initial setup is pretty quick.""It's very easy-to-use.""The most valuable features are the Metro clustering, and disaster recovery.""The main feature I have found to be product replication.""It performs well and it is also very fast.""The onboarding and integrated monitoring tools are pretty good."

Cons
"The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint.""In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented.""I would like to see the management layer improved."

"This solution would be expensive for small business and it could be priced more competitively for that market.""The interface needs to be more user-friendly in that sense that installation and management are still a bit on the high end.""On the hardware side, you should have the ability to expand capacity to larger numbers.""On the controller side, I would like to see NAS capabilities.""There really isn't any aspect of the solution that needs improvement for the customer other than its price.""One of the drawbacks of the model we purchased is that it is not running NVMe drives. Even though they say that it is NVMe-ready, it is still on the SSD drives. The model that we purchased has only eight hard drives, and only the ones on the top could work on NVMe. The rest of them are still on the SSD. Its competitors, such as EMC and Pure Storage, are moving or have already moved to NVMe. HPE should improve this solution for NVMe. HPE should also improve IOs in this solution. IOs in HPE are weaker than Hitachi and Pure Storage.""We cannot use this storage for critical applications and data.""The file server embedded in Pure, the GUI, and the tracking and reporting features are better with Pure Storage."

More HPE Primera Cons »

"It's on the expensive side, as expected for a niche product.""Compared to, for example, Hitachi NAS, the solution is not mature at all. It's just in its infancy as far as technology goes.""The feature that we're waiting on is better integration with the cell services.""It would be nice if you could store file-based in the same box with the same technology.""There could be improvements in public cloud integration.""I would like to see the licensing fees improved as well as the price per terabytes.""The solution is expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with.""The licensing fees are very reasonable."

More Pavilion HyperParallel Flash Array Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The price of this solution is good for medium-sized and large businesses.""From what I see, this is competitively-priced and HPE are doing their best to stay competitive.""The price to capacity ratio is good.""It is basically in the mid-range of the price. It is not cheaper than Hitachi, but it is cheaper than Pure Storage. There are no additional costs. Everything was taken care of in the price.""Licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis and the cost of GreenLake service is included.""I believe HPE Primera and Pure Storage are similar in price.""There is only a one-time license purchase needed and no additional costs. If HP could reduce the training cost, then that would be advantageous to the seller."

More HPE Primera Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The price is a little high.""In my opinion, we have paid the right price for the product. I don't think that it is too much or too little.""The price of this solution could be made more affordable.""Licensing fees are paid yearly."
