We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like that it integrates with the Jira solutions.""ALM Quality Center's best features are the test lab, requirement tab, and report dashboard.""It's easy to create defects and easy to sync them up with a developer. Immediately, once created, it will trigger an email to the developer and we'll start a conversation with the developer regarding the requirements that have not been matched.""Micro Focus ALM Quality Center is a very good test management tool especially for writing test cases and uploading. You can even upload the test cycles from Excel. You get the defects and the reports, and also some automation using EFT which works with ALM.""It's user friendly, scalable, and very stable and strong. It's cooperative, meaning that I can assess the test to check it and follow the flow of defects, and the developers and the business can use this tool to follow the test process.""The initial setup is straightforward. It's not too hard to deploy.""The setup is pretty straightforward.""By using QC we broke down silos (of teams), improved the organization of our tests, have a much better view of the testing status, and became much quicker in providing test results with document generation."

"Reliable and stable. It is important that TestRail be up and running 24/7 as we have users around the world using it.""The features that I have found most valuable are that there are various test case templates and test artifact maintenance.""The product helps us create test cases and reports.""I was on the lookout for automation testing on the browser and I believe this tool is very interesting in that matter. The solution is useful for UI testing. You just need to add the URL that is to be checked.""Integration with Confluence and JIRA.""I use the solution for test management.""I use the product to create test cases and share them with my team and manager.""The most valuable features of TestRail by Gurock are the user experience, it's very easy to learn. There is no learning curve needed to work on projects and manage the test cases, it is easy. Exporting and importing are simple."

Cons
"The solution needs to offer support for Agile. Currently, ALM only supports Waterfall.""Only Internet Explorer is supported. That is a big problem. They don't support Chrome and Firefox and so on.""Client-side ActiveX with patch upgrades""Quality Center's ability to connect all the different projects to reflect status and progress is quite complicated. We may develop something because there are so many projects. Right now, I have to do something which Quality Center is really not designed for: over reporting. This is a very big problem right now. We may develop some controls, but it is problem at the moment. I love Quality Center for individual projects to work with it. However, if you have a lot of projects for Quality Manager to do cross reporting on many projects, then it's almost impossible. It takes a lot of time.""Cross project reporting is limited to similar database schemas""An area for improvement in Micro Focus ALM Quality Center is not being able to update the Excel sheet where I wrote the test cases. Whenever I update some test cases, I'm unsuccessful because there is overlapping data or missing cases from the sheet.""It needs Pure-FTPd WebUI and single sign-on.""The session timeout time needs to be longer in my opinion."

"The platform needs improvement regarding performance and creating links.""Reporting could be more flexible regarding repeating reports.""It would be nice to have a description section when creating the test scenario itself so I can indicate what the configuration should be.""The product is not focused on synthetic data creation. I would also like to see more integrations with other platforms.""I do see room for lots of improvement in it. In terms of usability, duplication with test cases and constant creation of projects isn't easy. There is also too much API integration into automation tools, which is not there in ALM with UFT. Instead of setting it up as a project and using it, we set it up as a system for usability. It also lacks in the traceability aspect. For traceability, you need to use the JIRA plugin and drag traceability on JIRA, but the functionality is still quite limited. The biggest gap is mainframe testing. It would be good if I could start with mainframe testing. Manual granting of access is another issue. There is no API that I could use with another system where it is automated. There is an API for loading somebody to a project but not for adding to the application.""With TestRail, the APIs are there, but they may not be able to easily integrate with the Jenkins.""It would be useful if it had its own issue management system. At the moment, it's purely a test management tool and you have to link to a defect management tool, like JIRA. It would be useful if there was an option to use its own defect management tool so that it's integrated and not two separate tools.""The reports should be more user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I'd rate the pricing as 3/10 as it's very expensive."
  • "If you have more than five users, a concurrent licensing model should be considered."
  • "For pricing, I recommend to buy a bundled package. Check the HPE site for more details."
  • "The full ALM license lets you use the requirements tab, along with test automation and the Performance Center. You can also just buy the Quality Center edition (Manual testing only), or the Performance Center version (Performance Testing only)."
  • "HPE has one of the most rigid, inflexible, and super expensive license models."
  • "Sure, HP UFT is not free. But consider what you get for that cost: A stable product that is easy to use; the kitchen sink of technology stack support; decades of code (which in many cases actually is free); a version that is a stepping stone to an easier Selenium design; and a support base that is more that just the kindness of strangers."
  • "Seat and concurrent licensing models exist; the latter is recommended if a large number of different users will be utilizing the product."
  • "I feel that the licenses are expensive. "

  • "Use TestRail Cloud (online TR hosted server) and don't worry about maintenance or scalability. It saves a lot of cash and time."
  • "My advice to others is to shop around for the best deal. Some options out there are free in cyberspace."
  • "Pricing for small teams seems correct with respect to competitors."
  • "Negotiate the best deal you can."
  • "Its price is definitely not more. If they introduce automation, they can charge more."
  • "The price of the solution is based on how many users you have per year. When you grow, it is segmented, For example, 10 to 25, you have a price, and more than 50, or 100, you need to take the enterprise license. I don't think we will reach this point."
  • "I give the price a five out of ten."
  • "The product is not much expensive."
