Pros
The Online firmware update for the virtual connects has minimized our downtime windows. The most valuable features of this solution are the ease of management and the integration with OneView.Where it used to take one week to re-image or upgrade our hosts, it can now take one day.We have more control over the firmware and how we are managing our physical servers. It has had a positive effect on the efficiency of our IT infrastructure team. The manageability of it is so easy, we're able to install it quickly, and replacement parts are easy to get in and out quickly.Cable management is a big feature, in addition to time to deployment. We can buy a new server and have it up and running very quickly.Valuable features include its dependability, reliability, and the ease of managing the system. With OneView, we can take care of all our servers in one dashboard.

The most valuable feature of this solution is performance.Using this solution has made our backups more reliable. The most valuable features include the ease of implementation, ease of use and the speed that you can do backup and recovery on.The initial setup is pretty easy and simple. We have integrated it with VMware. The integration process is pretty good. Especially with VMware, it helps with the capacity of it.We can capacity plan at a greater level than we used to.It has absolutely simplified our storage because the dashboards on the consoles show a clear understanding of where you are, and it is also very easy to provision. This been a big help for our teams. The ease of deployment and management has helped us simplify our storage. We also do not have to worry about capacity management as much. A lot of these things are native to Pure Storage.

Cons
Technical support for this solution has a very good initial response; however, escalation takes time, and most of the time the first level of support cannot solve your case.A faster Composer module would be a good inclusion for the next release of this solution. The installation and initial setup process is complex and needs to be improved.I would be more comfortable if Ansible actually rolled back the data used for automating platforms. If it could be communicated to the upstream Ansible, I wouldn't need to go back and forth and validate the libraries as we upgrade the Ansible version.I would like to see more nodes in a single chassis so we wouldn't have to purchase additional chassis.I would really like a way to validate the firmware in my specific environment before trying to deploy it. Those were the issues we had early on with firmware upgrades, particularly around certificates. All in all, having some level of confidence aside from it just having been tested generically would help. Something more specific to my environment would be very helpful. One of the features I want to see, which I will see with OneView 5.0, is to have all the OneView consoles in a single pane of glass. That will make it easy to see everything in one place and not have to log in to multiple consoles. We haven't seen any ROI, and it hasn't reduced our cost of operations.

I would like to see more VM-Aware features in the next release of this solution.I would like to see more monitoring capability included in the next release of this solution. In terms of scalability, it doesn't expand out quite as robustly as some of the others, but it covers 90% of the market in what it does. The speed could be improved.I have not seen ROI.The technical support needs to improve. When we open a case, it is auto assigned to a support tech person. Nine out of ten times, we get an email right back saying that person is off until tomorrow. I cannot handle that. They just did this over the weekend to us, too. I had to call our rep and have them do something about it.On our dedupe during our initial buy, we were expecting a number a little higher like 4x. However, we are getting about 3.6. While it is close enough, it doesn't quite hit the numbers. So, this has been a challenge. They need better integration with public clouds along with a better hybrid solution.

Pricing and Cost Advice
We pay for licensing on the fibre channel uplinks, on the Virtual Connect, which is an add-on.The solution has reduced our IT infrastructure costs by 50 percent. It costs us around $60,000 a year. The licensing is more around the software for RGS, because we are deploying bare metal installs. It is mainly the operating system and any lights-out management. So, licensing is minimum. We are licensing it annually. When we made the purchase of the hardware, we added Professional Services to it.Nutanix was really hard to implement, and it was very pricey compared to what we get from Synergy. We do CAPEX.For temporal use, when you throw on the fact that you're essentially doubling your capacity, right there you could claim a 50 percent TCO reduction.

Support is a separate line item. Support is a different cost, but whatever your support is now, that's what you're going to pay forever. If your support's $100 today, six years from now it's $100. It doesn't fluctuate unless you upgrade it, or change it, etc.Our licensing is renewed annually.I have seen ROI. It has allowed me to increase the density of my VMs without having to purchase anything additional. We used a reseller for the purchase. Our customers have seen a reduction in TCO.
