We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features.""There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint.""We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN."

"The majority of our customers find this solution simple to use.""This is a stable product that we can use for DR in production.""I've been satisfied with the level of attention I'm given when I reach out to technical support.""There are plenty of features available in this solution.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the overall simplicity.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the price to performance ratio.""The installation and management are very easy."

"I would say in terms of architecture and in terms of functionality, the product is quite good.""The dashboard is such that you don't need to be a storage expert to administer it.""The most valuable feature is the performance, as well as how you manage performance on the system.""SolidFire provides seamless performance across your storage system when you need to scale up. Other storage systems do not do that.""The system efficiency is excellent overall.""It's got full API functionality and the performance is pretty steady."

Cons
"I would like to see the management layer improved.""The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint.""In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented."

"This solution does not support VMware VVols 2.0.""There are some limitations to this product because they do not have unified storage.""The product could always be faster.""This solution can improve by providing easier migrations and better Metro features.""Huawei OceanStor Dorado could improve the integration, there have been some compatibility issues with some operating system functions.""I would really like to see Heterogeneous Storage Virtualization in a future release.""If they implement a backup solution directly into the OceanStor then it will be a valuable feature."

More Huawei OceanStor Dorado Cons »

"The technical support is really bad and has to be improved.""The inclusion of more protocols and interfaces would make it easier to integrate with other products.""You don't have business continuity with SolidFire. I think it could be a nice feature to have in the future.""The user interface needs to be improved. Much of the client feedback involves comments such as "Oh, it's hard to navigate through."""The upgrade process could be better.""SolidFire should start from two nodes instead of the four nodes. That's the only thing. In a lot of solutions, we have to use four nodes, that's the better thing. But as a starting point, two is better. That's why their starting point is expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with.""The licensing fees are very reasonable."

"There are lots of features included with this solution and some of them require additional licensing, such as creating high availability storage using a cluster.""This product is not too expensive, and the price is competitive on the market.""There are some costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, depending on the requirements.""We usually recommend our customers choose advanced licensing and enterprise companies are more inclined to choose this solution because it is more cost-effective than competitors.""The price of the solution is competitive compared to others, such as Dell EMC and Hitachi. I believe the reason they are providing a discount is they want to increase their penetration into the market."
