Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Fivetran can perform data migration incredibly fast, depending on the source and target.""Its arrays are powerful enough to handle migrations even when the replication is happening in the background, without causing any trouble with the ongoing traffic.""Making the decision to implement Fivetran was supported by the fact that they have better connectors than other competitors.""It is not like a traditional ETL, but it gives quite a lot of flexibility.""The ease of usability is the most valuable feature. It's very easy and quick to set up. It also has a central hub as opposed to GoldenGate which is one direct interface. For GoldenGate I would have needed three interfaces whereas with HVR I have a central interface that manages everything.""The most important feature of the solution is its ability to build data pipelines in less time.""There's the general feature of the platform where it just makes it very easy to integrate different things, but I would say a specific difference is their integration of DBT,.""The simplicity of the solution is its valuable feature."

More Fivetran Pros →

"Deduplication is the most valuable feature. It saves us a lot of space. When we back up 100 terabytes of data, after dedupe, it only uses maybe five to six terabytes for the disk space in QoreStor.""The features we use for the data deduplication are nice because we're able to back up a much larger amount of data, yet it doesn't necessarily take up that much data on the devices.""The dedupe and compression are pretty extreme. On disk, we're getting dedupe rates of up to 65 percent of data and compression of 34 percent. When you go to the cloud, it's more like 76 percent for dedupe and almost 50 percent for compression.""QoreStor has helped us to reduce our backup storage requirements on-premises. We've been using the same devices for quite a while, and so it lets us keep using them as opposed to having to rip out all that hardware and create a new on-prem solution. The advantage here is even if we had to retire the hardware tomorrow, the QoreStor part doesn't change. We just have to have additional hardware and put the solution back on whatever hardware we pick and it'll do the same thing.""Data deduplication and replication would be the top two features. The encryption and cloud tiering are also attractive for the future.""It integrates with various backup software solutions, which makes it compatible with existing backup workflows and processes."

Cons
"I would like Fivetran to implement additional resource monitoring and restriction policies.""I would like for them to incorporate additional transformations. A valuable aspect of the product is that it does inflight transformations and that could be expanded.""The customization could improve because Fivetran gives more thought to people who don't want to manage analytics workflows rather than engineers who want to be able to customize pipelines more thoroughly.""Fivetran should add more connectors because its competitors, like Airbyte, have more connectors.""The interface needs to be more user-friendly.""We experience cost issues because Fivetran is charged on a usage basis. When you reach a certain level, the tool should focus on reducing the costs. The solution is expensive when you are moving gigabytes and petabytes of data. It should also focus more on REST APIs and webhooks.""Fivetran is very expensive for data sources with a lot of rows, such as email data. I would like to see cheaper pricing for data sources like that.""The connections with SAP must be improved."

More Fivetran Cons →

"In terms of improvement, we would like to have an Air Gap feature to prevent a virus from attaching to something. So that when we don't do a backup, we want the QoreStor to stay offline. It would be a nice feature to have.""The ransomware protection of QoreStor could use improvement.""The installation could use improvement. The initial installation was a little touchy and it's not really user-installable. You have to have a connection to support to install.""They need to increase their maximum capacity. Other than that, they're doing a pretty good job.""The management interface is in need of improvement. The graphical user interface (GUI) for the web management tools appears clunky, and not super intuitive.""The setup of the software is definitely not the easiest thing. I worked a lot with Quest engineers, especially in the early days when we were first testing it and trying it out. I actually had some of the developers working with us at one point because they were going through these point releases, and I was having trouble getting it to work in this S3-compatible situation. We got it all working eventually, but setup is definitely not the easiest thing in the world."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I don't have the exact information, but I know it is high, and it is on a yearly basis. There is no additional cost for what we're doing. We're always open to doing things cheaper, so we might potentially implement a different solution."
  • "I've heard that the license for HVR is a bit costly compared to its competitors, but since it's reliable and efficient, I think the customer shouldn't be bothered about the cost."
  • "Fivetran is very expensive, and its database-driven pricing model is outdated."
  • "I can't give exact amounts because that's based on usage, but it's more expensive than some of its competitors."
  • "In the first year, we were given a very good discount. It was approximately 20,000 Euros per year. In the third year, we purchased credit for two years and the price was 33,000 Euros per year."
  • "I would say they're a little bit on the expensive side, and their contract process is not particularly good, but there is a lot of potential flexibility."
  • "The pricing model is okay and mid to large companies will not have an issue with it."
  • "The licensing costs are extremely high for the usage of somebody who has one GB or two GB of usage per day for real-time traffic. There are many other players in the market which are similarly priced or competitively priced. On average per month, it used to come around 12,000-15,000 USD, which is very high."

  • "Its pricing model is very attractive. You have one price, and you get everything from QoreStor."
  • "The cost is per terabyte, and overall, the cost was reasonable when compared to some competitors."
