We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
For planning, forecasting, in-boxing, modeling in general and for predicting numbers and doing work analysis, they are excellent.A positive feature is Report Studio, where we create beautiful, complex reports. The most valuable feature is developing reports from different data sources, making it a reliable data source. It's enabled us to report directly from our main application systems. We're removing islands of data and we're removing inefficiencies, where people or small divisions had their own store of information.Using custom controls, it is possible to extend the application with even more functionality and make the application intuitive and attractive.Self-service is possible through the use of dashboards, which are also very intuitive. Stories can be used to pin snapshots, tell the story for meetings, etc.Integration with Office can enable the 'download' mode of storytelling.‚ÄčMapbox integration for geospatial analytics down to longitude/latitude layers.

Because this solution is very easy, and very visual, you can have results in minutes. It is a good platform for data analysis, organization, and all of the other interim performances that are necessary.Tech support is very helpful. My primary use is for view of the dashboard. It ingegrates nicely with Office 365.It is a powerful tool that helps our data analysis processes. It's user-friendly and provides data abstracting capabilities. We are also able to share reports with our colleagues very easily. There is a lot of help and documentation on the Internet, so no special training is needed to use the source code.

Cons
The charts and graphics are weak.We need more predictive analytical functions, not only diagnostic or decryptic analytics. One thing that we really want is the ability to have data portrayed on an image. Cognos is not able to do it at the moment, and that's becoming a requirement from the business side: having an image and then plotting your dataset on top of the image as a map.I think the GIS pieces maybe not as good as we would like.Extending features on dashboards so it becomes a real dashboard building application, not only a data exploration tool.Extending dynamic cubes aggregate awareness with calculated measures. One key area for improvement is the need to improve the self-service nature and functionality of the product in terms of visual analytics.Chart quality: many other competitors have charts and graphics that look much better and that provide dynamic effects. Cognos doesn't.

I would like to see a feature that connects with a Machine Learning platform like a RapidMiner or Azure Machine Learning Studio. It would be great to have a Machine Learning application link to connect. It could have more of a hold on big data. Manipulating big data on this solution complicates things. This needs to be improved. We did have some issues building the Microsoft blog.Powerpoints are not available in the report server. The report server feature is quite limited. It would be nice to use other connectors to link with the data. The DAX features need some improvement. It's not as easy as Excel. They need more DAX formulas. The reporting part of Microsoft BI is rather limited compared to other reporting tools.

It is reasonably priced. No comment on pricing. It is a cheap solution for our needs. No comment. It is free.It is part of our Office 365 license. The costs are small and the benefits are high. The Report Server is pretty expensive on-premise. But as long companies are happy to use the cloud version, that's very cost effective.
