We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
It's a complete software that can protect all the main applications. Perhaps that's the feature I like most. The integration with the NetApp and other apps is also very nice. It's very stable. We are using a KVM system in our cloud, and this solution works very well with it.It's the leader in backup and archiving. It is much more scalable and flexible than everything else in the market. In the VM, we have Live Recovery, Live Mount, and Live Sync.Global deduplication and the indexing of the data object are the most valuable features. It saves costs on the product side by doing compression and deduplication. It will help you and make your life easy to reach the data that you need within the minimum downtime when it's required. It's an enterprise product. It's a stable product. We have good support. Almost all databases are in the scope.

In terms of stability, I've found it to be very stable. I've walked into the server room when it was at 60 degrees Celcius, and it was still running fine. The most valuable features are the Self-Service, and the ability to search the data.

It is very capable of scaling and very good for heterogeneous environments. We have good data backup coverage. The most valuable feature is that the backup and restoring process is very fast.Compared to a homemade installation, this appliance is very stable. We rarely need their help. I would give their technical support an 8.5 out of ten. We are satisfied. They are a large company with good best practices, and they give good support. The intelligent policies feature is used in order to protect the VMware infrastructure. One of the things that makes a big difference for our company is the usage of these intelligence policies. The system automatically provides extra protection for any VMware server application or service. From a backup administrator's point of view, this is what we call peace of mind. It reduces the workload and therefore reduces resources needed from the company. The most valuable feature of this solution is that it can be used in many different kinds of systems.

Cons
I think the one thing that could be improved is the customer experience. The interface should be more user friendly. The back of virtual machines needs improvement. I know they're working on it. They're always doing new things but I think they still have a little bit more to do.This solution can be complex and difficult to administer because it supports all of the many platforms, so it would help if they could simplify it.Its competitor, Veeam, includes backup and replication in the same product. I don't know if Commvault has it or not, but they should if they don't.Support for this product needs to be improved because I have seen a couple of cases where it is taking more than the required time to solve issues. We previously had difficulty with the support being foreign. The setup is not that straightforward or easy. Even the documentation is not generic or public like other products. You have to be a partner or you have to have a specific account and download it from the vendor themselves. You need quite a lot of human resources to maintain a Commvault environment, to keep it operational. Also, it would be nice to if there were an easier way set up some Commvault components.

The configuration wizards are still complex and hard to navigate. These should be easier to manage.I would like the possibility to back up the infrastructure and then replicate it upon on restart, without having to orchestrate the starting of the VM.

I would like to see support for databases such as MySQL and MongoDB.This solution has to have better integration with the cloud, as well as with other solutions such as Business Intelligence products. We had some problems with the backup of the physical server. The scalability isn't great. Every time you want to add storage, you can't just add a little bit, you need to add a lot. They need to make the licensing more clear. They should give all of the licensing details for the portals and be more clear. I have accidentally purchased the incorrect license because it's not clear.I would like to see a product that requires less expertise to manage it.The only drawback for NetBackup, and of course for Veritas, is that they have stuck to the same environment and to the same UI - User Interface. This needs to be improved in future releases. It needs to be more dynamic.Technical support for this solution needs to be improved.

Pricing and Cost Advice
The price could perhaps be lower as well.In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually.Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair.
