We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"What I like about IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is its integration, plus it has very good technical support.""The most valuable features are the API features because it allows you to integrate with your Microsoft SQL, your Oracle, and your IBM Db2.""The most valuable feature is the ease of use.""Virtual snapshots that offer incremental backups.""The initial setup of IBM Protect Plus is simple and not complex.""The support from IBM is very good.""The solution integrates well with other tools.""Some of the features we find very valuable and use a lot, are retention sets."

"The dashboards in Micro Focus Data Protector are very good. They are similar to the dashboards in Veeam Backup & Replication.""I have used Micro Focus Data Protector for the file backup facilities. My primary use of the software is to backup file data.""It's user-friendly and not overly complicated to configure.""It works excellently only with Oracle.""Deduplication implementation with CAPA is very good.""This solution is quite stable because we have only three users.""The installation was simple and provided an easy way to install even on Unix servers. It has excellent features like deduplication.""I like that it supports HPE UNIX servers since many backup solutions do not - this is the main reason why we chose this solution."

Cons
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve by adding SAP Rena.""The tool needs to increase the number of threats.""In the future, I would like to see support for global deduplication.""The replication feature is not available.""The backup support for IBM Power Virtualization needs to be added.""I think the graphical reports are a shortcoming of the tool since it fails to provide my company with what we want in terms of reporting. Due to the product's inability to take care of its reporting part, we have to use third-party software.""It requires much more automation features.""I would like more integration with security. We need to show the value of the product in regards to handling security. For example, how it handles current malware or viruses. IBM should be more proactive in this direction."

"The new backup systems are using new mechanisms for the recovery phases; for example, VM, recovery and testing the backup before recovering it. These features are not available in Data Protector.""Micro Focus are improving Data Protector with every new version and since we began undergoing training with the latest version we have not faced any real challenges yet. However, their support does need to be improved, in my opinion. In certain critical cases that we've had, they did not provide a satisfactory level of support.""In SAP restoration, we faced issues with changing the SIDs and changing the path for every backup object. It is quite a lengthy process to do that.""Integration with the market applications must be improved, such as MS Exchange, MS Active Directory, SAP and Oracle. Other backup tools are more efficient with the integrated backups.""The GUI could be updated. The GUI hasn't changed since version 6. It's on version 10 now. The reporting could also be better. Also, while Data Protector is excellent for backing up physical hardware, it needs more features for backing up VM images because many environments use hypervisor.""It can occasionally be inaccurate in its backup/recovery time estimates.""Micro Focus Data Protector must improve its overall evolution record. They need to focus on hardware based instant recovery, client recovery, and cloud ability. Now there is no cloud ability.""We have a lot of requests for the Micro Focus team, particularly in terms of the Japanese data pattern, as it's not as good now. The Japanese data pattern accuracy of the Micro Focus Data Protector needs to be improved because there are a lot of false negatives and false positives. We are currently testing this and our product team has been communicating with the Micro Focus team."
