Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"In general, the solution is quite user-friendly. The GUI is very nice.""The product helps us do data protection and restoration for disaster recovery (DR).""The deduplication and compression features are the most valuable features.""It's a very stable product, and we've never had any downtime with it.""The platform has valuable stability.""We are able to run it in an enterprise quite easily with one or two resources.""The interface is easy to use.""With data deduplication and compression, we are reducing our overall storage footprint for our disk histories. Therefore, we are reducing the actual cost of the disk for our data protection and data backups."

Cons
"Its management part can be better and simplified. It is kind of a beast as compared to Commvault or Veeam, but they are more user-friendly. They are also easier to learn, whereas Spectrum Protect definitely takes time. They should simplify it. Our teams are pretty comfortable with it because we have been using it for a long time, but from the perspective of a new user who is evaluating or using this solution, it is definitely more complex in terms of manageability. Its monitoring could be improved so that it can even monitor the jobs that are scheduled by external schedulers. There are situations where a database team might decide to use their own schedulers, but currently, Spectrum Protect is not able to catch those jobs in the Operation Manager console.""We would like to see capabilities of long-term archiving and more support for hardware platforms.""The product should be improved to save more space.""We have run into some periods where we have found some tape issues which were causing us problems, but we resolved them. For some reason, we had a bunch of drives go offline on our disk storage (our virtual library).""Anytime you are not very current and call in with an issue, it is hard to get it resolved. It will depend on how far back you go though.""I would love to see something which allows us to do an auto restart of backup jobs.""If you take Spectrum Protect into account, and you have it along with restrictions to Spectrum Archive by means of LTFS, this is also something which should be made better within the overall product's program.""Stability is very good now. It used to be rocky years ago."

    Overview
IBM Spectrum Protect (Tivoli Storage Manager) is a data protection platform that gives enterprises a single point of control and administration for backup and recovery. It is the flagship product in the IBM Spectrum Protect (Tivoli Storage Manager) family. It enables reliable, cost effective backups and fast recovery for virtual, physical and cloud environments of all sizes.

The native Active Directory backup and recovery utility from Microsoft fails to deliver rapid restorations due to its clunky user interface and lack of control over attribute-level changes. This emphasizes the need for an AD backup and restoration tool that must be user friendly, and also be able to restore all AD objects, including users, computers, groups, containers, OUs, DNS data, and GPOs.

RecoveryManager Plus is one such web-based Active Directory backup and restoration software that is easy to use and also enables you to back up all your AD objects as well as recover deleted objects. Additionally, it offers you the flexibility to restore only specific type of objects or just specific attributes of desired objects.
