Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"GPFS monitoring is the best feature.""The most valuable feature is the ability to share files across different platforms.""We are using it for monitoring all of our storage.""The high performance of the solution is its most valuable aspect. If you compare it to other storage solutions, it's much better."

"I definitely find the reduced power consumption very valuable.""The most valuable features are its ease of use and its good performance.""The management interface of this solution is great.""We are suggesting Nutanix to the management because of scalability and time efficiency.""The cloud features in-site offering, which I found to be very interesting.""The configuration is easy, and it's flexible.""Karbon is a must-have as it drastically simplifies the deployment of Kubernetes.""The solution offers impressive performance."

Cons
"The biggest problem is that it is not able to provide block storage.""The pricing and licensing model for this solution are complex and it is sometimes difficult to explain it to customers.""Integration with other vendors is not available.""It would be helpful if there was a graphical user interface that could walk you through the deployment process. The instructions surrounding setup aren't the best. They need to be more step-by-step."

"One thing I've noticed is that, when you do a shift from VMware to Nutanix, it opens the setup of the VM that's currently running. If people from another site double click on it, it opens the VM instead of the setup of the unit. So I would suggest that this could perhaps be switched. That is so far the only change I would like. I would like it if they could fix the instance where you double click on a VM and it opens the VM instead of the setup. That's the only thing that's a major bother to me.""The product could be improved with more security. The product needs a bit more experience in the market. I think you don't have the possibility to add other hardware. It could be improved with the ability to add and extend.""I would have liked it if Nutanix were a hardware as well as a software platform.""The storage and back-up facilities could be improved. We need day-to-day encrypting of the database.""There could be better support for high power ESX and other cross platform applications.""In terms of the IT different categories, I would like for the governing sections to be able to use it in the IT department. If they can have something like a one view management portal or software similar to VMware that would be an added value.""In the licensing, it needs to be clear about features because it is not clear whether Flow is integrated or not.""The solution doesn't support older systems, which can be a problem for some organizations who wish to implement it. It became a problem for us due to the fact that some of our systems are older."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The licensing is based on the number of terabytes.""The licensing model is complex and depends on factors such as the number of processing cores and the amount of storage."

More IBM Spectrum Scale Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Our licensing fee on the total setup up was about R900 000.""I think it's cheaper than VMware in terms of cost.""AHV is free! This is a great feature that should be taken advantage of.""The licensing costs are a bit expensive but when you compare the features, it's reasonable.""This product is less expensive than some of the competing HCI solutions.""Its price is fine. I can't really complain about that.""My advice is to get the ultimate license, as it is worth it.""The setup cost, pricing, and licensing are very competitive and TCO is very low compared to three-tier solutions."

Overview
IBM Spectrum Scale is a cluster file system that provides concurrent access to a single file system or set of file systems from multiple nodes. The nodes can be SAN attached, network attached, a mixture of SAN attached and network attached, or in a shared nothing cluster configuration. This enables access to this common set of data to support a scale-out solution or to provide a high availability platform. IBM Spectrum Scale has many features beyond common data access including data replication, policy based storage management, and multi-site operations. You can create a cluster of AIX nodes, Linux nodes, Windows server nodes, or a mix of all three. IBM Spectrum Scale can run on virtualized instances providing common data access in environments, leverage logical partitioning, or other hypervisors. Multiple IBM Spectrum Scale clusters can share data within a location or across wide area network (WAN) connections.

Nutanix delivers invisible infrastructure for next-generation enterprise computing, elevating IT to focus on the applications and services that power their business.
