We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"I really love the Data Explorer. I use it all the time to go in and craft exactly what I need to see. I'm able to then take that story and explain it to the executives. I've done that a couple of times and it is helpful.""In terms of the solution’s real-time visibility across our network infrastructure, I have not been able to find any other monitoring or netflow visualization tool that gives me the kind of information I get from Kentik. If I need to take a deep-dive into something that I see, it's really easy for me to do that. Whereas with most other things, I have to use five or six other tools to get that kind of data, with Kentik, I have it all in one place.""Having the API access allows us to do a great deal of automation around a lot of our reporting and management tools.""We're also using Kentik to ingest metrics. It's a useful feature, and its response time, whenever we're pulling back the data, is higher than our on-prem solution.""I am able to do a lot of work on the visualization end to create different visualizations and different ways to get information out of it.""The drill-down into detailed views of network activity helps to quickly pinpoint locations and causes. All the information is there.""The most valuable feature is being able to pull traffic patterns; to and from destinations. We're able to understand where our traffic is going, our top talkers from an AS set, as well as where our traffic's coming from.""The most valuable features have been anything around traffic engineering: being able to determine the source or destination of a surge of traffic, whether it's DDoS-related, or a customer just happened to have a sudden uptick in traffic. Being able to tell where that's coming from or where it's going to enables us to do things based on that."

"Scalability is pretty easy on the base platform. You just add another, and you're ready to go.""This product is a reliable defense from malicious attacks on a network environment.""They're quite easy to install and quite easy to set up. Clients really like that. Especially when you're dealing with the cloud, it's really easy.""I like the user-friendly interface.""The solution has a very good interface.""It is an effective threat mitigation tool.""The technical support is excellent.""The most valuable features for us are the DDoS and Bot."

"The tool happens to be very intelligent when it comes to processing policies and sounding alerts. It allows us to implement policies and measure actions against them, raising alerts accordingly.""It has a lot of different components that cover the needs of our customers.""The functionality is very useable and easy to understand.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the database security policy.""This solution has helped secure our Internet-based services, protecting us against DoS and other types of web-based attacks.""A solution which does what other name brand products do for a lower cost.""Flexible reporting allows for customization that keeps the admins from having to interact with system automation.""The most valuable feature is the Data Masking."

Cons
"I've checked out the V4 version of the interface and it's still a little bit clunky for me to use. I still go back to the old interface. That's definitely one that they still need to work on. It doesn't seem like everything that you get in the V3, the older interface, is there. For instance, I was trying to add a user or do the administrative tasks in V4, and I couldn't figure out where I was supposed to do that.""There is room for improvement around the usability of the API. It's a hugely complex task to call it and you need a lot of backing to be able to do it. I should say, as someone who's not in networking, maybe it's easier for people who are in networking, but for me that one part is not very user-friendly.""I would like to see them explore the area of cost analysis.""The only downside to Kentik, something that I don't like, is that it's great that it shows you where these anomalies lie, but it's not actionable. Kentik is valuable, don't get me wrong, but if it had an actionable piece to it...""They're moving more in a direction where they are saying, "Hey, here's information that you may be interested in or may a need," before the question has to explicitly be asked. Continuing to move in that direction would be a good thing.""We asked for a way, regarding the potential networks that exist, to hook Kentik up with external tools like peering DBs to correlate things together and see what we can do... This is all in the [next] beta now.""I believe they're already working on this, but I would love for them to create better integrations from network flow data to application performance — tracing — so that we could overlay that data more readily. With more companies going hybrid, flow logs and flow data, whether it be VPC or on-prem, matched with application performance and trace data, is pretty important."

More Kentik Cons »

"The solution needs to improve Integration with third parties for their on-prem deployment models. The integration is not that good yet.""Analytics in the area of risk need to be improved to supply more information to the users for creating better environments.""We would like them to hire people in Sweden because it's quite hard when people are sitting in the UK or Belgium because some of the customers really want them to be local.""The rules surrounding the making of web applications could be improved.""Imperva should have more points of presence in Africa.""I would like to have support for SSL management and secure DNS.""The log analytics interface within Incapsula isn't really good. For example, if you have to get all logs from there, it's a very cumbersome process.""It's quite expensive."

More Imperva Incapsula Cons »

"The only challenge I see is that SecureSphere is deployed on servers or databases which are held on physical infrastructure. However, there are databases which are hosted on cloud platforms and Imperva has a separate tool altogether for that, not SecureSphere.""Integration with other databases or third-party products would be useful.""It would be better to update the solution by using a GUI that guides me, rather than through a CLI.""Technical support for this solution needs improvement.""The GUI for this solution could use some improvement.""The interface is not user-friendly.""Performance can be slow under heavy loads, but this should be adjusted by scaling.""The firewall features are not very strong and should be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"We have an annual contract with Kentik that we renew each year for a set number of licenses. We also have some burstable licenses which we can spin up and spin down, and those are paid as they are used."

More Kentik Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The data packages are higher than our needs so we end up paying for data that we don't use.""The cost is on par with other solutions such as Cloudflare and Akamai.""It is not expensive compared to the other similar solutions in this category."

More Imperva Incapsula Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The cost of support for this solution is very expensive.""Licensing fees are on a yearly basis, and it is a good value for the money.""There is an annual licensing fee for upgrading the device.""Pricing is low and scalable to add features and volume.""The pricing over-all depends on the entry level. For example, if support and maintenance are about $20,000 - $25,000, the initial cost can be five times more. It is less expensive for the company to maintain the client than to make the deployment.""We have all the licenses, which we pay for annually. The price is a little high, but the product is good.""They have introduced new price models, which makes the product more affordable now."
