We performed a comparison between New Relic and ITRS Geneos based on real PeerSpot user reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: New Relic was preferred due to its ease of use, accurate alert mechanisms, and user behavior and experience monitoring features. New Relic's pricing was a concern for some, while ITRS Geneos may be too expensive for non-banking and non-finance industries.
"We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."
"The flexibility of the product is most valuable. It is highly customizable. If you put your mind to it and think of something you could do, there's a good possibility you can get it integrated within the console, if it's not readily available. The simplicity or ease of customization has been valuable."
"The clean and colorful UI and easy to use options like snooze and active times."
"The built-in plug-ins allow administrators to easily configure monitoring components for market data systems such as Thomson Reuters Enterprise Platform and SRLabs Wombat (formerly NYSE)."
"The ability to completely tailor and customize what it's monitoring is one of its strongest points. A lot of other monitoring tools are good at certain things, but one of my colleagues described it as the “Swiss Army Knife” of monitoring tools. It can do anything you want."
"ITRS uses SNMP to communicate with our devices as well as SNMP net probes installed on our servers."
"ITRS can define rules to alert when certain parameters that you monitor breach a threshold. Rules can be configured to fire recovery actions automatically to clear the alert"
"The Netprobe is so lightweight compared to the agents that most monitoring tools use. It's really superior to the competition. The agent that is used by almost every competitive tool takes a lot more system resources. It's slower and it requires a greater effort and more compromises in terms of security to install on the monitored servers. With Geneos, because it lives outside the code, it is far easier and far less taxing on the monitored systems."
"One of the best aspects of Geneos is that it has a broad scope and can cover a lot of use cases. You can write your own scripts to monitor really specific things. And the rules that you can put in place can be quite complex for the alerts."
"One valuable feature is that the synthetic alert stays open until the issue is resolved. You can actually monitor whether your system is back up."
"The alert mechanism is quite accurate when something goes wrong in your system. For example, if you have hundreds of APIs on your server, and any of the APIs is not performing well, you get an alert. When there is a drop or change in the threshold value, the beauty of New Relic is that within a fraction of seconds, all the stakeholders who are configured in the New Relic system will get an alert. That's one good thing."
"The versatility of the solution is its most valuable feature."
"Working with the solution is very easy. It's user-friendly."
"It does everything we wanted it to do."
"Support for plug-ins (RMQ, Redis etc.) is a valuable feature."
"The most valuable feature of New Relic is its ease of use."
"The solution is quite stable."
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."
"ITRS Geneos is not on the cloud at a time when everyone is moving to the cloud."
"A lightweight version which could host more than 100 gateways, as we can see slowness while loading all our gateways."
"I would like ITRS Geneos to develop an app, where instead of going to specific login terminals or logging into laptops or desktops to check alerts, we can have visibility in the app itself."
"They have the Webslinger solution where you can see when something is alerting. It's a little bit cumbersome."
"ITRS Geneos cloud monitoring is very weak and can use improvement."
"For the last year or two, I've been asking the vendor about the mobile app. This is something that probably everyone asks when they see the tool and they see how powerful it is. If there is any mobile app for this or if there is any way this tool can be more easily accessible other than having a big client installed, it would be great. I know you can build dashboards, et cetera, but there is no quick and easy way. I should be able to download an app, log in, and see my status. That will put this product above everything else out there. I believe it's on their roadmap."
"There is one drawback to using lightweight data collection: we lack the feature of observability based on time series, such as historical model data. This makes it difficult to view data in ITRS. ITRS needs to improve this feature."
"Sometimes, if there is a lot of data coming onto the servers, we have observed a little bit of slowness on the gateway servers which are doing the ITRS dashboard monitoring."
"The product has good documentation for Linux, however, their documentation for Windows is lacking substantially. It's something they need to develop."
"The browser isn't exactly reliable."
"The price could improve."
"I would like a feature where I can turn off alerting at a policy level. Thus, when a policy is inactive, I can shut down all of my alerts within the policy."
"I would like to see the company implement the AI auto-baseline feature which Dynatrace has."
"New Relic APM is a good tool, and it has a database of failures, but it could use a list of customer-specific failures. New Relic APM should be able to give my company advanced analytics through AI."
"In addition, its difficult to have a predictive tool to see how the application would behave in the future when it basically only shows the historical data."
"The connectivity between legacy and newer cloud applications is not great."
