We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
From a protection perspective, it provides a network perimeter security function for our company. We use it as a firewall at our head office and branches. It integrates well with Fortinet and Palo Alto.It uses many applications, like antivirus blocking and web filtering. The high availability of the application is good.It protects the data behind our switches. It helps us perform our daily jobs.We mostly use the Layer 4 firewall functions: Access rules, NAT, and site-to-site IPsec VPN.

The most valuable feature is the IPS. It also protects us from malware.UTM 9 brings along IPSec as well as iPhone and iPad support. This seems small but it’s useful. The isolation of infected machines is a big feature. Also, the ability to detect external sources that change files on a file server is really big.It improved bandwidth utilization and provided link load balancing features for internet and intranet lease lines.Advanced protection (Sophos Sandstorm) - Protects against crypto viruses in real-time.It has helped by identifying threats within the company. If there are computers or servers that are compromised, then we are able to identify them right away in the system. The implementation with the AWS environment was good.It meets our compliance needs in an elastic computer environment.

Cons
This solution needs to update for "Next Generation" needs. It did not improve our safety because the IDS does not detect some attacks, but our anti-virus software did.We tried configuring the IDS for more than four months, but it did not work properly. The CLI is verbose. You have to say a lot to do a little. I don't like that part of it. Cisco's command syntax seems to be a good bit more concise. When you're trying to get something done, you don't want to have to type a bunch.Juniper needs to focus more on their perimeter firewalls. The GUI needs to be easier to handle.I would like to see endpoint control and endpoint testing security.I would like them to add a dashboard because it's difficult to operate.

The solution could be improved by adding cloud soundboxing. We didn’t find any issues but I know there have been some in the last few years. It does have built-in policies, which enable you to disable USB devices, etc. It would be nice if they had more policies because there are not that many of them.Initially, there were issues with the wireless network as wireless access points were disappearing from the dashboard after some time. There is still room for improvement in wireless protection. I don't mean their WiFi device is bad, but there are still things to improve on, such as WiFi roaming. The technical support only communicates via email. I would prefer to communicate directly with someone. They could reduce the price. It is a little too CPU resource intensive, so we would like to see improvements there.

Pricing and Cost Advice
It has a low price. It is not that expensive.Pricing is good. Most of the costs are in the UTM (IDS/IPS, virus scanning, etc) subscription.Palo Alto was nice, but much more expensive. We were able to lower our overall operating costs over a three year period by 25%, mostly recovered from maintenance/support costs.Small enterprises or telco have variant licenses, and this licensing should be improved.I would say about $20,000 for a SRX650 with IDP licence.Pricing is very good, not expensive.

The biggest issue with Sophos is the pricing. It's definitely more expensive. As I said, we looked at Webroot, which is a big alternative, and Sophos was almost three times the price of Webroot. That's a pretty big difference. We purchased the appliance with five years onsite support and licenses.Pricing for the upgrade was very competitive as Sophos wanted to retain existing customers.Sometimes more is less, meaning if you want more than three features, take the FullGuard licence. The pricing and licensing are both good and better than Sophos's competitors. This is why we went with the product. The AWS Marketplace product should be a better fit, but it is a little pricier.Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace is pretty straightforward. Because were entirely on AWS and don't have anything anywhere else. It made the most sense for us as a one stop shop. The pricing is pretty reasonable. I don't think that it is overly expensive.
