We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Wide range of adapters/connectors which allow connectivity to any tools.""We increased our development and testing team velocity, were able to manage traceability, and deliver software faster."

"It has a good response time.""Test Execution (Test Lab): This allows us to track our manual tests with date and time and enter actual results and screenshots.""The test-case repository and linkage through to regression requirements will absolutely be a key component for us. We haven't got it yet, but when we've got an enterprise regression suite, that will be a key deliverable for them. We will be able to have all of the regression suite in one place, linked to the right requirements.""With test execution, you have an option to create custom fields. It is also really user-friendly. With other tools, we only have restricted fields and we cannot customize or add new columns or fields that users can make use of while testing. ALM is very flexible for creating new fields. It is easy for users to understand the application.""Micro Focus ALM Quality Center is a very good test management tool especially for writing test cases and uploading. You can even upload the test cycles from Excel. You get the defects and the reports, and also some automation using EFT which works with ALM.""Having used the tool before, I like the use of parameters, being able to do exports and reports of the data for monitoring of executions, and the defect management as well. I feel satisfaction in that area.""The ability to integrate this solution with other applications is helpful. If there is automation, it comes with improved quality and speed.""Ability to customize modules, particularly Defect Tracking module on company specific needs"

Cons
"Needs an easier and less heavy UI."

More Kovair ALM Studio Cons →

"When it came to JIRA and Agile adoption, that was not really easy to do with ALM. I tried, but I was not able to do much on that... There is room for improvement in the way it connects to and handles Agile projects.""There's room for improvement in the requirements traceability with Micro Focus ALM Quality Center. That could use an uplift.""I'd like to be able to improve how our QA department uses the tool, by getting better educational resources, documentation to help with competencies for my testers.""I'd like to see the concept of teams put into it.""There is room for improvement in the scalability and stability of the solution.""I would like to be able to search easier, not just do SQL queries, being able to do free keyword searches on the data. That's valuable.""As soon as it's available on-premises we want to move to ALM Octane as it's mainly web based, has the capability to work with major tests, and integrates with Jenkins for continuous integration.""ALM requires that you install client side components. If your organization does not allow admin rights on your local machine, this means you will need someone to run the installation for you with admin rights. This client side install is also limited to Internet Explorer and does not support any other browsers."

Pricing and Cost Advice
Information Not Available
  • "I'd rate the pricing as 3/10 as it's very expensive."
  • "If you have more than five users, a concurrent licensing model should be considered."
  • "For pricing, I recommend to buy a bundled package. Check the HPE site for more details."
  • "The full ALM license lets you use the requirements tab, along with test automation and the Performance Center. You can also just buy the Quality Center edition (Manual testing only), or the Performance Center version (Performance Testing only)."
  • "HPE has one of the most rigid, inflexible, and super expensive license models."
  • "Sure, HP UFT is not free. But consider what you get for that cost: A stable product that is easy to use; the kitchen sink of technology stack support; decades of code (which in many cases actually is free); a version that is a stepping stone to an easier Selenium design; and a support base that is more that just the kindness of strangers."
  • "Seat and concurrent licensing models exist; the latter is recommended if a large number of different users will be utilizing the product."
  • "I feel that the licenses are expensive. "
