Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"I think it is a very stable product.""The Active IQ feature is a productive mechanism that automatically collects reports and users' statuses.""Data efficiency is the most valuable feature because of the dedupe and compression.""The most valuable feature is the ability to do QoS.""We have SQL clusters across the United States. It has sped up our IOPS and made it a lot easier for users.""The most valuable features are the low latency and high-performance.""The most valuable features are high performance and encryption. It also provides aggregate level dedupe.""The most valuable features are the IO performance that we get, the cluster part, and the increased workload and performance with the SSDs."

"The FlexClone feature is the solution's most valuable aspect.""We are satisfied with the stability.""Ability to cluster two storages together with HA availability.""The solution offers very good reliable systems and storage for our clients.""The price of this solution is good."

"It has solid performance and provides data locality.""It is a good solution and it is easy to work on their platform.""It consolidates our servers, and improves our electricity consumption and cooling as well.""The most valuable feature would be the ease of deployment. That is the most significant feature for me because I've worked with multiple vendors and it's always been very complicated to install the software and get everything running.""Best features are around data locality, compression, and deduplication.""The fact that there is only one interface to deploy a complete solution for maximum storage is fantastic.""I definitely find the reduced power consumption very valuable.""The most valuable features are its ease of use and its good performance."

Cons
"A while ago, they performed quite slowly.""Implementation needs to be improved.""I would like to see more frequent updates at a faster pace.""There needs to be compatibility with upgraded applications. We don't want the system to be upgraded, but not have backwards compatible to existing applications.""I would like to see aggregate level encryption in the next release. This is critical.""I would like them to roll in global monitoring instead of having to buy another product for it.""The initial setup was a little complex, because we weren't very knowledgeable in the NetApp at the time. We were using a third-party, and they didn't have a lot of technical individuals, so it took a while to get it out.""We'd like to see improvement in the time to retrieve from the Cloud, whether it's on-prem to cloud and whether it's public or private cloud."

More NetApp AFF (All Flash FAS) Cons »

"The solution needs a simpler licensing theme around the DM series. The problem is if you only need one of the features, you still have to buy the whole thing. The licensing needs to be more granular or flexible so you have the option to only license FlexCone or Inline Compression features.""It takes a very long time to enter the management console, as well as to restart the system, and these are things that should be improved.""This is an expensive solution.""The licensing model needs to be revisited. It needs to be simplified.""Many people do not realize that Lenovo has a storage solution, so better marketing from the vendor is needed."

"I would like to see a fuller integration with the public cloud. It would help the user enter the hybrid cloud infrastructure.""As of now, Acropolis and VMware cannot talk to each other. Until we have some kind of interface, it would be much better for Nutanix if they built an interface which can talk. Otherwise, if I have a VMware stack and I already have a Nutanix stack, I create containers, I create clusters on VMware, I create clusters on Nutanix. All of these clusters cannot talk to each other. Then it has to be then subverted as a parallel execution. What happens then is that I have to work in two different environments within my data center. Practically, they are two different data centers but physically and logically, they are one. If they cannot talk to each other that creates a lot of issues. That is something which Nutanix has to develop because for Nutanix it is very simple. For example, Oracle is using a function called GoldenGate. They have a feature called GoldenGate which allows them to talk to various different environments which must really help.""If we can have certified compatibility with other companies, such as Oracle, then it would let us know that they function correctly together.""The GUI for this solution needs improvement.""If they can simplify the software slightly for the installation, that would make all the difference.""We could always use a performance upgrade, or simplified management.""They have offered some new features that I have not deployed so I assume that these issues might have been addressed already, but, at my time there was a networking problem.""One thing I've noticed is that, when you do a shift from VMware to Nutanix, it opens the setup of the VM that's currently running. If people from another site double click on it, it opens the VM instead of the setup of the unit. So I would suggest that this could perhaps be switched. That is so far the only change I would like. I would like it if they could fix the instance where you double click on a VM and it opens the VM instead of the setup. That's the only thing that's a major bother to me."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Always consider whether you can afford the solution.""Our total cost of ownership (TCO) has decreased by 40 percent.""I am able to store two times more data than what I'm purchasing, which affects the way funds are being utilized.""Disk level encryption is already in the solution, but it is very costly. Its pricing should come down.""From an application standpoint, we have seen a lot of return investment on the speeds and responsiveness of the actual storage.""The total cost, the pricing of it, has gone up quite a bit.""Our TCO decreased significantly because we were paying maintenance on nine different arrays throughout the country. We've condensed those down to three arrays, and our maintenance fees from the IBM product dropped by over a half million dollars a year, saving us $500,000 USD.""Our TCO has increased by 15 to 18 percent."

"Their technical support is really good. They have been very helpful.""There are a lot of features included with Nutanix that cost a lot with other companies.""They should lower the price. If they did they would fall into a more competitive market because the price does scare a lot of potential customers away when they get the quote.""Pricing varies greatly between license and editions.""Our licensing fee on the total setup up was about R900 000.""I think it's cheaper than VMware in terms of cost.""AHV is free! This is a great feature that should be taken advantage of."
