Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The RFS portion of the solution is the product's most valuable feature.""What I like best about Loom Systems is that you can use it for infrastructure monitoring. I also like that it's a flexible solution.""You can develop your own apps within Loom, and they can be configured very simply.""The solution is absolutely scalable. If an organization needs to expand it out they definitely can."

"We like the alerting system, the SNMP monitoring and the customization of the bandwidth.""The installation is not that complex.""The real-time monitoring feature in PRTG is invaluable to me""PRTG is relatively intuitive and fairly straightforward. It has net flow monitoring and that works all right. I would describe it as a decent middle-of-the-road solution.""PRTG is simple to manage. First, you can create a template for a device, then apply it to hundreds of similar devices. That's a great advantage.""We have asked questions of their technical support and they have a very good response time.""The most valuable feature of this solution is being able to see things graphically.""The solution provides us with needed feedback on our IT infrastructure. It gives us really good quality of service when it comes to monitoring of available space and available resources. It allows us to preempt issues before they become a problem for the business."

Cons
"The discovery and mapping still takes a lot of human intervention, it's quite resource heavy,""The change management within the solution needs to be improved. There needs to be more process automation.""The reporting is a bit weak. They should work to improve this aspect of the product.""What's lacking in Loom Systems is the level of priority for each incident. For example, after implementation and there was a huge impact on the client, and the client comes back to you and says that there's an incident, that there needs to be an immediate resolution for it, you'll see severity one, severity two, etc., in Loom Systems, rather than priority levels. It would be better if the incidents can be defined as low priority, medium priority, or high priority."

More Loom Systems Cons →

"Mostly, this software has sensors for devices to monitor specs and you can build or develop or modify various sensors, according to your company's needs. But you may need to do that with coding or plugins or with the support of Paessler AG, the manufacturer.""We run it in a cluster, so we have two that run together. The cluster behind it is sketchy at times.""We would like to monitor certain aspects of the user experience. We should be able to analyze the cause of end user experience, bad or good, so we can do some research and development on our own.""Having a Unix implementation or Unix installation could be an improvement. Right now, it's based just on Windows, and that's a problem for some customers.""They could improve the process of updating the license.""I would like to have a VM version that can be installed on a cloud such as Azure. We're using Azure, and we're eliminating on-premise servers. It would be helpful to have a PRTG version that can be installed on the Azure cloud.""This solution is a good product so far, but I haven't been using it long enough to know how it could be improved.""I would like to see network mapping."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
