The development environment is model-driven. We can use the information from this for our business engineers to make the information models, and they can also execute the model.
The integrated security saves a lot of time, especially when it comes to setting up user-roles and security. Also, database updates work automatically. There is no need to write queries to update the database, once you make an update.
It's amazing that you can build web apps and mobile (hybrid) apps with one code base in a few clicks. It's a full continuous integration environment.
Mendix has made a great deal of effort to provide its developers a healthy, modern environment for developing. First of all, it adopts Agile methodology by creating a SCRUM-based app where you can handle your user stories. Next comes version control, which really allows multiple team members to collaborate quite easily. And last but not least, Mendix modeler, which is your IDE for developing Mendix apps.
Suite allows you to easily and smoothly integrate with pretty much anything. It is also cloud-enabled. It provides a full Cloud Foundry-driven cloud environment with one-click deployment.
Enables us to rapidly create a complex application. We are also able to customize features that stakeholders in the corporation want to see, something that could not be done with other software. Our workflows and processes have evolved and improved. The fast iterations allow us to be nimble, get feedback from users, and do rapid updates.
The incorporation of several kinds of storage, such as SSD Premium, enhanced the performance of machines.
Azure has improved my organization because it is a new technology and so the customers who don't have enough knowledge about the cloud delegate the administration of their cloud infrastructure to us. We incorporate and add a new service to our product lineup about how to manage their Azure. It impacts our business because we're able to incorporate this new service.
Much more intuitive and more visual than AWS. More obvious where things are and how to change their configurations, etc.
Being able to set up, change and configure VMs is easy - a lot easier than in AWS.
Feedback and error messages make much more sense in Azure than in AWS.
It was easy to deploy our applications on it.
Azure has the best website amongst all cloud computing platforms. It is simple to utilize, and one can release nearly anything, from app services to host sites.
I come from the DBA side so for me it's the easy maintenance; backups are very easy as well.
Overall, integration with the enterprise ecosystem needs improvement.
While the documentation is good, the development box could be better.
What is lacking is the support of higher level modeling features, like the modeling you do is relatively low level, yet it is still close to programming. We would like to see a more business-oriented modeling environment, like BPMN.
Needs multiple database connections so an app can directly read/write data to/from multiple databases. This would enable easy splitting of big applications that have complex entity relationships.
I would also like to see automatic adjustment to the Java Heap, whenever an application load becomes too much for the application. It could also use hot database replication.
I would like to see more documentation as well as how-to documents.
It needs to provide an overview of model versioning control for the sake of the review process; better SCRUM board; an overview of model changes from the repository through Sprintr (SCRUM board). Also, a choice between versioning control system would be nice.
It could use a more comprehensive widget creation studio in the IDE.
Virtual networks might be improved by adding more rules for the validation of protocols and peripheral elements in security assurance.
The interface is not easy to use. I'd like to see them develop a better interface, more graphical information about the resource and the consumer.
There are a number of services offered by AWS that are not yet available on Azure.
We have faced some challenges trying to deploy a new ESP application.
Establishing the account in the beginning was very difficult.
I would like to see more databases on the cloud, what they call today Big Data should be there.
Scalability is definitely in need of improvement. Azure is a very good solution but it still lacks the performance of other cloud platforms.
Azure does not handle scalability as well as its competitors. Sometimes a 10 percent increase in a server with 20 percent of CPU usage pushes the server up to 100 percent load, and you start having performance issues.
Pricing and Cost Advice
Initially, we started with a year for approximately $25,000, and if we need to expand the number of seats then we will increase it.
From a commercial point of view, we would like them to change that they currently sell it as a platform, but as a customer you have to decide upfront the usage of the platform. We would like to have Mendix sell it as a pay as you go model: You pay for what you use, and you don't pay for what you don't use.
It's a very expensive machine and I would like for them to improve the price. There are smaller sized competitors who offer cheaper prices.
The pricing is very competitive.
The cost-benefit equation for Azure is very good, particularly for small applications. However, Microsoft should do much, much more to improve how costs are communicated and how to forecast them. The Azure Pricing Calculator is not useful.
Pricing is very difficult to guesstimate. With so many a la carte options and individual pricing it can be a hassle to understand.
If you are not aware of costs, pricing, etc., you can end up with a hefty bill. However, I found that the Azure price calculator is a valuable tool to use before starting to deploy VMs in Azure. This tool will give you an overview of the costs you should expect on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis.
