Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We switched to Commvault because we were looking to centralize management. This reduced IT administrator time as well as providing stability and reliability for data backups in a single console.""Commvault's many features can be explored to get more value from more solutions.""The expanse of the decoys that they have is valuable. They cover everything on the corporate side that you would think of, such as Windows, Linux, and even applications like SAP. They also go into the OT environment and emulate OT devices as well.""Commvault is very simple to use and it is automated.""Commvault integrates well with all types of operating systems and supports heterogeneous environments.""The VM backups and the recovery from cloud infrastructure are valuable.""Commvault provides the status of a backup or restore operation.""The user interface is very easy to navigate."

"The most valuable features of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows are the backups, ease of use, and report manager.""The initial setup is very straightforward.""The most valuable feature is the ability to navigate inside a backup point to look for a specific folder or data you want to recover.""Application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good.""It is a stable solution.""This is a reliable system that supports Veeam backup and recovery for Windows.""A full-featured option for managing virtual machines with an instant recovery feature.""To do the actual backup configuration is also not too bad."

Cons
"The Java interface is not great. The Command Center interface is far better and it looks nicer, but it doesn't have all the powerful features available in the CommServe/Java console. The place to improve the product is on the management interface level.""The product is expensive.""Our customers complain that this is a difficult product to manage.""The pricing of the solution can be improved and made cheaper.""Training.""We had some small issues with the reporting, but that was just a matter of fine-tuning the kinds of messages we receive by email. It was a little overwhelming in the initial configuration. So we reviewed our configuration with our partner and customized the reports so that we only get the important reports. I haven't seen any big issues or things that the solution is missing.""Support for this product needs to be improved because I have seen a couple of cases where it is taking more than the required time to solve issues.""Commvault Complete Data Protection meets market standards, but an area for improvement is its licensing model. It would be good if it could use the subscription-based model rather than the traditional licensing model."

More Commvault Cloud Cons →

"Some customers have Oracle databases and Veeam does support back up of Oracle databases.""We need some sort of security for backups and archives.""An area that this solution could be improved would be with the licensing.""There isn't really anything I would like to improve. Maybe the solution could be more secure.""In the next release, I would like to see it easier to implement.""Interface could possibly be improved.""It fulfills our needs in terms of features. In terms of improvements, they can maybe improve its documentation.""The predictability of the solution needs improvement. Sometimes, if it's doing something at the back end, it may go slow. Today, the backup completion took four hours, but sometimes it can do the backup in 30 minutes or an hour. With solutions like NetBackup, I can predict to a much higher degree of certainty how long something will take to complete."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
  • More Commvault Cloud Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
  • "Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
  • "There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
  • "We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
  • "The pricing is good."
  • "The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
  • "The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
  • "We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
