We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The tool's most valuable feature is life cycle management.""The most valuable feature of Micro Focus Cloud Service is how user friendly the solution is."

"Upgrades have been extremely simple with their Lifecycle Manager product.""The feature of automated balancing which implemented between two data centers solely for the purpose of a recovery plan is valuable.""The solution has helped us to increase infrastructure agility, mostly because, in addition to it being able to do its thing on its own, it has tie-ins to other parts of our CICD pipeline. We use Jenkins for our build process which, of course, vRA has plugins for, to be able to integrate with it. We use Chef and there is the Chef build as part of our image that we standardized to deploy, and that can tie in with our section of the pipeline that it does for applications.""The most valuable feature that we have is that it's able to deploy several different operating systems, it's able to deploy whatever we want. We can take a template, spin it up, revise it, save it back off, and be able to have that for other departments. We can have one for our Dev team and one for our research team which has some specific requirements. We can keep track of them and deploy things automatically.""The IT support for developers is nice as well because they are able to manage the environment themselves.""We are able to provide self-service to all of our IT/development teams to expand and decrease their environments at will.""The infrastructure has helped us to greatly increase our agility.""It is mostly for our tech support to test new versions, find bugs, and troubleshoot what is happening at customer sites."

Cons
"OpenText Cloud Service Automation needs to incorporate easier installation. It should improve skills and quality of support.""I would like fewer restrictions as a software tester."

More OpenText Cloud Service Automation Cons →

"I would like to see support for Google Cloud and Azure. Because they don't support Google and Azure today, we need something that's cohesive with our entire landscape. There is a gap right now with VMware. If you want support for these environments, you have to go elsewhere right now.""The initial setup was complex because we have a high availability cluster. Especially when it comes to upgrades, we have a lot of downtimes and problems. The upgrade experience has been painful.""It would be better if VMware would provide API documentation for developers and customers on the Internet.""We still struggle a little bit with the configuration as far as making sure that we have all the endpoints where they need to be, because that's not as agile as we'd like in the back-end. We're working towards that with our DevOps teams to make sure that we're touching the right endpoints and getting the right data.""7.5 is not user-friendly, in fact, it's a nightmare. They changed everything on the graphic user interface, the mode where the user interacts with the product.""We have seen some issues with upgrades or installations. This means we have to raise a call every time with VMware.""I would like to see more automation, more ways to automate automation tasks.""Most of the time the upgrade experience has been good but sometimes things break after upgrading. For example, some API codes stopped working."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "OpenText Cloud Service Automation's pricing is average."
  • More OpenText Cloud Service Automation Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "From the customer perspective, the value was worth it."
  • "I'm very interested in the integration with Puppet. However, my organization doesn't have the funding for something like Puppet right now. If VMware would integrate that feature set (Puppet) into vRA. That would be very awesome."
  • "Better pricing is always handy, but I feel it's at the right price point."
  • "We have seen significant ROI. We used to have physical servers, it took 90 days to get a server, order it, buy it, and get it in. We have it down to 10 minutes, building a server with virtualization, and now that's too slow. So, we let the customer do it at their speed. Therefore, it is pretty much up in a couple of minutes and they have a server."
  • "The solution has helped to increase infrastructure, agility, speed, and provisioning in the time to market."
  • "There is confusion between licensing levels. There are three different licensed versions of vRealize Automation, and there are different things which can happen in each of them."
  • "vRealize automation really should be a front door to the whole VMware suite of products."
  • "As far as value is concerned, it has been essential to our environment. We have been able to deploy VMs quickly and the developers have their own sandbox, so they can spin up and destroy VMs at their own will."
