We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The centralized GUI is the best feature, that there is only one webpage where we can see the states of all the backup jobs. We can see all the tasks that are running and we can quickly see if one fails; if they are running or have any issues. We have all that in one place.""Being able to add everything in as resource groups is a valuable feature... Having all the SQL servers put into specific buckets, based on their year of release - 2008, 2012, 2014 - allows us to get almost immediate backups that are easily seen and reported on.""The most valuable feature is the RBAC, the Role-Based Access Control. In our managed service, we can have different layers of security.""We have been very satisfied with the technical support's help. Their knowledge level is great. For a noncritical question, they will get back to us within a day.""It allows us to easily take a Snapshot and use it with any backup tools. We can also take Snapshots on the application side. We can also take Snapshots on the application side. If we want to restore an SAP or an Oracle machine, a normal Snapshot won't do it, but we can do so with SnapCenter.""What is very handy for our clients is the consolidated view. They have a dashboard with everything, through a single pane of glass. This is what they really need because, within seconds, they can have a good overview and see if there are any errors or any issues.""It's a centralized, easy-to-use solution empowering RBAC management, monitoring, notifications, extensive logging, and backup schedules for standalone as well as groups of the same types of environments. The cloning capabilities accelerate development.""It's integrated with VMware vCenter. You can also see the backups there and you can do a restore completely out of vCenter."

"It's user-friendly and not overly complicated to configure.""It is a traditional backup model. If you talk about file server and the official Windows database, it's a stable product.""This solution is quite stable because we have only three users.""I haven't experienced any crashes while using the solution...Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""Ability to automatically detect and secure new data sources without requiring manual configuration intervention.""The most valuable feature is the capability to back up our SQL server.""The dashboards in Micro Focus Data Protector are very good. They are similar to the dashboards in Veeam Backup & Replication.""Data Protector is very good at automation. From the time of the backup, verification, and copy to tape, it is very good. I don't need to touch it, it will do it by itself."

Cons
"If it was possible to create backups on non-NetApp storage, that would be helpful.""Since the solution's initial setup is complex, it should make training documents available in the public space.""The DBAs are comparing it to SMO but it doesn't have a lot of the functionalities that SMO has.""It needs to support vSphere 6.7.""Some of the minor functionalities from SnapManager did not transfer over to SnapCenter. These should be added in future releases.""I feel a little bit that during the whole process of putting this software into production we were like a beta program. It was full of bugs... For example, we had a problem with truncating our Exchange log files... It has improved over time.""The compatibility with other manufacturers, like Oracle and Hyper-V, could be improved. I would like to see it be more compatible with other software.""I'm waiting for SnapCenter for hybrid solutions. Right now, we only have SnapManager for hybrid. I need agents for that. People are looking to install SnapCenter in a SQL environment, but where they're running SQL on Hyper-V and using virtual files. Currently, we don't have support for hybrid."

"In terms of what can be improved, I would say integrations with MongoDB. We use MongoDB and we need to go to scripts to do backups. We need more integrations.""The technical support is poor and should be improved.""They should design the solution so that it is much easier for deployment and make the UI easy to use.""Micro Focus are improving Data Protector with every new version and since we began undergoing training with the latest version we have not faced any real challenges yet. However, their support does need to be improved, in my opinion. In certain critical cases that we've had, they did not provide a satisfactory level of support.""I'm uncertain if it supports virtual machine backup and restoration. If they could enhance this aspect, they could gain more support from end users.""I don't like this solution so much because it's very technical and compared to Commvault and Veeam, it's not so user-friendly. The interface needs improvement.""We have a lot of requests for the Micro Focus team, particularly in terms of the Japanese data pattern, as it's not as good now. The Japanese data pattern accuracy of the Micro Focus Data Protector needs to be improved because there are a lot of false negatives and false positives. We are currently testing this and our product team has been communicating with the Micro Focus team.""It can occasionally be inaccurate in its backup/recovery time estimates."
