We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
SiteScope has built-in flat file DB, hence it removes the dependency of an external DB for higher stability.Has a simple setup. It can be up and running within hours. It can monitor over a 100 technologies with built-in solution templates. The Monitor Templates functionality allowed us to spin up monitoring with .csv files pretty easily.Simplest tool for monitoring servers, web content, databases and other hardware. Its dashboard is really good.Simple deployment: The deployment uses protocols such as NetBios, SSH, WMI, SNMP, which means that any device with any of these protocols will be monitored. It's easy to template standard monitoring configurations, and automate monitoring configuration. It's a very flexible product so you can run a script out of it, even straight out of the box.

While it also provides desktop metrics, the main thing we use it for is monitoring our applications. The application response time. That's what our business has been having a problem with.Being able to proactively identify issues on user systems. The ability to monitor crash and health event issues at a user levelThe most valuable feature for me is being able to monitor the productivity of every employee in the company as well as third-party, outsourced companies that work on our behalf. The item we use the most and what upper management wants is the SLA reports. It's a good summary of how the applications are performing over time from month to month. All of it, but it depends on who the end user is. The folks that support the applications, like the signatures that we've developed, it gives them feedback on their application performance.Desktop monitoring, and being able to understand the performance of applications that runs on the desktop.

Cons
Direct integration with an SMS gateway for sending critical alerts to the support SME. This will help customer investing in third party middleware solutions for SMS.They have not kept up with browser security requirements or advances in GUIs, they switched to a corruptible database architecture instead of text config files. They should provide more templates for new vendor devices. It could be more reliable using a database repository instead of a log repository.Full application functionality available via the API. There are some functions you can perform managing monitors, that are only available through the UI.More out of the box Cloud integration and capabilities.

Some of the dashboarding and reporting on the analytics side could be improved. I think they realize it. Obviously, some of the desktop monitoring metrics always can be improved.Reports were a lot easier in the older versionsWhen they moved from Version 8 to Version 9, the customers lost so much control of what they could do with the product. It all comes in pretty nice looking charts and things, but we have a hard time pulling out hard data, which is usually what you'll need if you're trying to be actionable.I would improve the dashboard, the presentation player.I think the workflow needs improvementSignature development process requires deep technical expertise in the application and in the use of their studio tools that help you create it.The thing that I think most companies like ourselves would want would be an easier way to customize custom scripts.

Pricing and Cost Advice
SiteScope licensing can be node based-or monitor-based. I would recommend for node-based licensing. You have to pay for their "solution templates". Other tools do not charge you for knowledge-based monitoring bundles.Depending on your requirements, there are two licensing models available. A simple point model, or an endpoint model.Licensing is a little steep.

Pricing is a bit high. Don't take that as the "be all, end all".If the scale of your monitoring will be to go everywhere in an organization, a site license is key.
