We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
There was a lot of manual work involved with Excel, whereas once we moved on to Microsoft Power BI, it was a cleaner dashboard and it was faster too.The uploading of information is very easy, as you just use an Excel sheet to start work right away and obtain the benefits of Power BI.Because this solution is very easy, and very visual, you can have results in minutes. It is a good platform for data analysis, organization, and all of the other interim performances that are necessary.Tech support is very helpful. My primary use is for view of the dashboard. It ingegrates nicely with Office 365.It is a powerful tool that helps our data analysis processes.

It is solid and stable. It gives you a lot of flexibility in designing your dashboards. We use it to identify critical KPIs to senior management. It has been extremely valuable, to combine data from various data sources. It can process big volumes of data fast.Through the use of Business Intelligence reporting and scheduling features, reports are generated and automatically sent according to a schedule. This has freed up countless hours spent performing the same tasks, month over month.Enables us to present data with Smart Objects that can be embedded within presentations and which automatically update when the presentations are run.Reporting from SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence is amazing, and gives users the ability to quickly access data from existing universes and/or relevant data sources, without the need to involve a functional business analyst or financial analyst.

Cons
I think because I'm moving more into RPA, I'd definitely like to see integration across the RPA, Power BI, or Tableau platforms, because that integration could then make automation and mundane reporting much faster.I would like to see the product offer more graphics to impact different audiences.I would like to see a feature that connects with a Machine Learning platform like a RapidMiner or Azure Machine Learning Studio. It would be great to have a Machine Learning application link to connect. It could have more of a hold on big data. Manipulating big data on this solution complicates things. This needs to be improved. We did have some issues building the Microsoft blog.Powerpoints are not available in the report server. The report server feature is quite limited. It would be nice to use other connectors to link with the data.

Over the years, the product tends to rename and rebrand itself and change its direction. This is a deficit of the solution. The combination of Lumira along with Design Studio merger last year still needs development from a visualization standpoint.SAP BusinessObjects is actually losing popularity within our company because people find the user interface and the way things are set up not to be as easy as many other tools that are on the market, like Qlik and things like that. The admin features for disk space management need work. It's very difficult to manage the disk space by the application; good admin features and not included to allow you to do that. I don't believe that is in the latest version of the product either.Currently, we can use Explore to do data discovering, but cannot generate charts. The biggest area for improvement would be the dashboarding capabilities due to the recent change from Xcelsius to Dashboard Designer. This has created a gigantic ripple in many companies because the skill sets required are drastically different. This product could be improved with Cloud Integrations and Predictive Analytics functions integration.More thorough testing of Service Packs before release.

Pricing and Cost Advice
I very much recommend the free trial mode.It is reasonably priced. No comment on pricing. It is a cheap solution for our needs. No comment. It is free.It is part of our Office 365 license. The costs are small and the benefits are high.

Depending on your size, try to stick with SAP BusinessObjects BI Edge. Most people tend to overthink the licensing. Remember that one concurrent user means that one person can be performing a task at a given time. That does not mean that only one user can be on the system at a time, it means that only one person can be refreshing a report or designing a dashboard. There are tons of ways you can access your data or reports without consuming a license. I've seen cases where five concurrent licenses support thousands of users. There's no additional charge for a Development environment license, so build an additional development server. It is not an expensive platform. The licensing is for a package of users starting at 10 users. It has an option of a Cloud Platform (SAP Analytics Cloud) which has a lower price than the on-premise platform, and you can buy individual licences per user.
