We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"If you have a fair amount of experience with NetApp, you can work on it very easily.""The most valuable feature is the ease of file storage.""If anything happens, their technical support will come onsite and fix it.""ONTAP has been very stable for us, specifically in the cloud environment. It allows us to have high availability as well as standalone systems if that's what we want within our specific workloads. Also, on-premise has been a very stable environment. We have very few outages and when we do, we work with support to get systems back online in a timely manner.""The ability for our users to restore data from the Snapshots is very valuable.""Its functionality and technical support are adequate to help prevent failure due to errors.""SnapMirror helps mirror metadata and data volumes between endpoints in a data fabric.""The FlexClones make all the management easier for us."

"The backup and recovery are the most valuable features. So, our developers can work with confidence.""The recovery time is fantastic and proven. Also, by providing a simple interface, the solution lowers the cost.""Provides easy, one-click functionality and flexible backup policies and schedules for AWS workloads.""The backup and restore functionality is very easy to use and manage.""The product is successful with the SMB market."

"The replication is the solution's most valuable feature. If we have some issues on the VM in the main site we can migrate it to another site automatically.""The most valuable feature is the integration with our Nutanix environment.""It's easy to use and the interface is quite simple.""Its capability to schedule, write and configure the recovery and scheduled steps, such that you don't have to come in and start manually trying to recover the entire machine. You just push a button to recover the VMware and everything is done.""The product is evolving and the vendor is committed to change.""The most valuable feature is disaster recovery testing.""The most valuable features are the disaster recovery and testing.""The most valuable feature is the simplicity of operations."

Cons
"When it comes to support provided by NetApp, they have room for improvement. Every time we go through their support, we end up answering the same routine questions.""The data tiering needs improvement. E.g., moving hard data to faster disks.""I would like to have more management tools. They are difficult to work with, so I would like them to be a bit more user-friendly.""The key feature, that we'd like to see in that is the ability to sync between regions within the AWS and Azure regions. We could use the cloud sync service, but we'd really like that native functionality within the cloud volume service.""I would like to see them improve the perspective of start and search in the panels. This would allow for better visualization of the contents that are captured in the tool.""The navigation on some of the configuration parameters is a bit cumbersome, making the learning curve on functions somewhat steep.""The only issue we had lately was that outside our VPC we could not reach the virtual IP, the floating IP. I heard that they have fixed that...""Scale-up and scale-out could be improved. It would be interesting to have multiple HA pairs on one cluster, for example, or to increase the single instances more, from a performance perspective. It would be good to get more performance out of a single HA pair."

"The UI is a little dated and hard to use. Some of the buttons are a bit small. You have to go into the menu to get the settings you want.""More documentation would be helpful, especially some step-by-step documents for recovery scenarios.""Additional features I would like to see are the ability to restore to different vendors, AWS and Azure, and/or the ability or take the information out of the AWS cloud.""The GUI could be slightly improved.""It's a global feature that the customer thinks they don't have enough tools to manage, to copy, to delay, and to classify the object file in the backup directory. So they need more tools to manage files in object directory."

More N2WS Cloud Protection Manager Cons »

"If you have a failover case, you need to work on it manually. It would be helpful if this could be automated. It would simplify things.""You need a lot of knowledge to work with the interface because it is not really easy to use, and it would be great if the dashboard were simplified.""Cost is definitely an area where the product could be improved.""What I think can be improved is the data replication aspect.""There are many functionality problems with the product currently. It is also slow and unstable.""The configuration process could be improved.""The interface is not easy to use and can be made more user-friendly.""The two vCenters have to be synchronized, which sometimes gives us problems because Keberos does not tolerate more than five minutes in time difference."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was good, but it was a test system, not a real purchase.""We purchased the product directly from NetApp.""The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable.""The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately.""Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration.""They allow a special price if you are working closely with them. Since we have a lot of NetApp systems, we got some kind of discount. That's something they do for other customers, not just for us. The price was fair. In addition to the licensing fees, you're paying Amazon for your usage...""The standard pricing is online. Pricing depends. If you're using the PayGo model, then it's just the normal costs on the Microsoft page. If you're using Bring Your Own License, which is what we're doing, then you get with your sales contact at NetApp and start figuring out what price is the best, in the end, for your company.""In addition to the standard licensing fees, there are fees for Azure, the VMs themselves and for data transfer."

"The purchasing process through the AWS Marketplace is easy. Just click the button.""The pricing and licensing on AWS is fine, because you can do it for smaller tiers depending on your number of instances, so it's not that scary.""AWS adds more features and offer things for free, or cheaply. Therefore, we will be evaluating AWS Data Lifecycle Manager, because it will probably do backups. Thus, make sure the product that you are using is competitive or adds more value than AWS.""It's very economical and worth the cost.""It has very good pricing per instance and comes with three options, for both small and large environments, to fit your needs.""The price is not cheap, nor is it costly."

More N2WS Cloud Protection Manager Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The price of this solution is on the expensive side.""The cost of SRM is a little bit high, especially for smaller companies.""The cost of SRM is on par with market rates.""The licensing costs are increasing.""It is about $3,000 a year for the 25 pack. The package gives you the ability to protect up to 25 virtual machines."
