We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"If you have a fair amount of experience with NetApp, you can work on it very easily.""The most valuable feature is the ease of file storage.""If anything happens, their technical support will come onsite and fix it.""ONTAP has been very stable for us, specifically in the cloud environment. It allows us to have high availability as well as standalone systems if that's what we want within our specific workloads. Also, on-premise has been a very stable environment. We have very few outages and when we do, we work with support to get systems back online in a timely manner.""The ability for our users to restore data from the Snapshots is very valuable.""Its functionality and technical support are adequate to help prevent failure due to errors.""SnapMirror helps mirror metadata and data volumes between endpoints in a data fabric.""The FlexClones make all the management easier for us."

"The backup and recovery are the most valuable features. So, our developers can work with confidence.""The recovery time is fantastic and proven. Also, by providing a simple interface, the solution lowers the cost.""Provides easy, one-click functionality and flexible backup policies and schedules for AWS workloads.""The backup and restore functionality is very easy to use and manage.""The product is successful with the SMB market."

"It has enabled DR protection for virtual appliances with minimal administrator time.""The ability to fully test your entire environment without actually performing a failover is invaluable.""Implementing this solution has given us sandboxing and the ability to move VMs.""We now have the ability to replicate critical data to a secure, off-site location that can be brought back in seconds if needed.""The ability to have a RPO of seconds has enabled us to restore data to just before an incident has occurred, which certainly saves a lot of time and money.""The ability to perform DR testing to ensure data integrity is critical.""I really like how you can test the failover as often as you need.""The ease of failover and test environments has proven invaluable."

Cons
"When it comes to support provided by NetApp, they have room for improvement. Every time we go through their support, we end up answering the same routine questions.""The data tiering needs improvement. E.g., moving hard data to faster disks.""I would like to have more management tools. They are difficult to work with, so I would like them to be a bit more user-friendly.""The key feature, that we'd like to see in that is the ability to sync between regions within the AWS and Azure regions. We could use the cloud sync service, but we'd really like that native functionality within the cloud volume service.""I would like to see them improve the perspective of start and search in the panels. This would allow for better visualization of the contents that are captured in the tool.""The navigation on some of the configuration parameters is a bit cumbersome, making the learning curve on functions somewhat steep.""The only issue we had lately was that outside our VPC we could not reach the virtual IP, the floating IP. I heard that they have fixed that...""Scale-up and scale-out could be improved. It would be interesting to have multiple HA pairs on one cluster, for example, or to increase the single instances more, from a performance perspective. It would be good to get more performance out of a single HA pair."

"The UI is a little dated and hard to use. Some of the buttons are a bit small. You have to go into the menu to get the settings you want.""More documentation would be helpful, especially some step-by-step documents for recovery scenarios.""Additional features I would like to see are the ability to restore to different vendors, AWS and Azure, and/or the ability or take the information out of the AWS cloud.""The GUI could be slightly improved.""It's a global feature that the customer thinks they don't have enough tools to manage, to copy, to delay, and to classify the object file in the backup directory. So they need more tools to manage files in object directory."

More N2WS Cloud Protection Manager Cons »

"It would be helpful if the reports can be generated periodically, on a schedule.""There needs to be more flexibility in the licensing.""The backup functions are in need of improvement.""The email alerts can be excessive, so better control over frequency or resolution may be a worthwhile improvement.""We have had issues with licensing, where the license we've been given by Zerto support doesn't include VSS replication, which was a pain at the time.""Increased granularity in how long to keep the journal would be nice.""I think Zerto could do better with size planning because it would be nice to analyze a server for a week and give an estimate on sizing the Journal.""I would like to see better notifications when the sync is off for an extended length of time."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was good, but it was a test system, not a real purchase.""We purchased the product directly from NetApp.""The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable.""The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately.""Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration.""They allow a special price if you are working closely with them. Since we have a lot of NetApp systems, we got some kind of discount. That's something they do for other customers, not just for us. The price was fair. In addition to the licensing fees, you're paying Amazon for your usage...""The standard pricing is online. Pricing depends. If you're using the PayGo model, then it's just the normal costs on the Microsoft page. If you're using Bring Your Own License, which is what we're doing, then you get with your sales contact at NetApp and start figuring out what price is the best, in the end, for your company.""In addition to the standard licensing fees, there are fees for Azure, the VMs themselves and for data transfer."

"The purchasing process through the AWS Marketplace is easy. Just click the button.""The pricing and licensing on AWS is fine, because you can do it for smaller tiers depending on your number of instances, so it's not that scary.""AWS adds more features and offer things for free, or cheaply. Therefore, we will be evaluating AWS Data Lifecycle Manager, because it will probably do backups. Thus, make sure the product that you are using is competitive or adds more value than AWS.""It's very economical and worth the cost.""It has very good pricing per instance and comes with three options, for both small and large environments, to fit your needs.""The price is not cheap, nor is it costly."

More N2WS Cloud Protection Manager Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The solution is very cost-effective and very easy to set-up but does not compromise on features.""While we find the twenty-five VM license somewhat inflexible, the actual setup costs are minimal as the product is so easy to install.""You are getting what you pay for, as this is a solution that requires minimal management after it is configured.""We found that in an event that was massive enough to cause an entire cluster to go offline we would be happy with our core services up and running.""The cost is not dirt cheap but also is not terrible.""The cost per VM is a bit high.""You need to figure out how many critical servers and applications you have in your environment so you will know how many Zerto licenses to buy.""Zerto is not cheap but is an invaluable asset."
