Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We use the product to monitor server applications.""Alert calls occur anytime a service goes down or a matrix is difficult and that helps us to quickly restore service and transfer work.""The application performance monitoring feature is valuable.""It has made the life of the network operations staff more proactive in managing the resources of the infrastructure. It prevents disasters long before they can take place.""I like that it's very simple to install, easy to manage and deploy, and easy to use for monitoring.""I like the way the solution sends alerts and how it keeps on escalating them.""Key features include the GUI interface, its notification capabilities, and the real-time reporting.""The most valuable feature of Nagios Core is it allows us to develop and add as many plugins as we want."

"It is very easy to monitor multiple cloud environments. It's like a single pane of glass for us. We can use it to monitor our on-prem and both of our cloud environments as opposed to having different tools for each environment. It makes it all come together in one tool.""The ability to create custom dashboards is one of the best features and that's typically why most people deploy Splunk. Users can create dashboards for just about anything.""The most valuable feature in this solution is the log searching.""The most valuable feature is log reporting.""The alerts are the most valuable feature.""It is a great resource for us because we have so many different data sources and to be able to aggregate that and put it through a concise dashboard or an alert really helps.""The initial setup was straightforward. We didn't find it to be too complex.""Splunk Infrastructure Monitoring gives us complete visibility without the need for storage."

Cons
"Bandwidth monitoring is the pain point for me because Nagios Core does not monitor bandwidth effectively like Cacti does.""The UI is a little outdated and graphics could be displayed in a better way.""Would benefit from aggregations if a particular server goes down.""The initial setup process could be easier.""We're using the free version, which limits us in terms of the things that we can do. If we had the paid version, a lot of our issues would probably go away. For example, we can't isolate instances that are being built or updated with the production ones. When they're being built, on Nagios, they're showing in red. It'd be nice to be able to partition those off until they're all green, and then we can bring them into the environment. This is probably because we've got the free version and not the paid version. If we went for the paid version, it would probably allow us to do exactly what we want to or remove the restrictions that we have, but if we are able to isolate instances in the free version, it would make life much easier.""There is room for improvement in the graphics.""It would be nice if the company offered a sales or contract manager that was dedicated to our company so that we would have some sort of link to Nagios, and if we had issues or questions, we'd be able to contact them directly.""I believe Nagios Core will need to provide an option for big data platforms in the future."

More Nagios Core Cons →

"It does not have a user-friendly interface and it is difficult to use.""We have both on-prem and cloud, and the challenge is getting all our log data aggregated or streams aggregated so that it is real-time. We do a pretty good job of that, but our organization is not using it as a security platform when it can do a great job of that.""There is a lot of room for improvement with the automation.""We still use Splunk Enterprise licensing. A lot of the newer features go into Splunk Cloud before Enterprise. We're not looking to switch our licensing over, so we're falling behind on the newer features.""The solution's stability is an area that has room for improvement. It needs to provide constant stability to its users.""The clustering part of indexes can be more refined.""The deployment can be quite complex.""They do not have all the features that I expect right now."
