We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"SnapMirror helps mirror metadata and data volumes between endpoints in a data fabric.""The solution’s Snapshot copies and thin clones in terms of operational recovery are good. Snapshot copies are pretty much the write-in time data backups. Obviously, critical data is snapshotted a lot more frequently, and even clients and end users find it easier to restore whatever they need if it's file-based, statical, etc.""For us, the value comes from the solution's flexibility, speed, and hopefully cost savings in the long term.""The feature which I like the most is that it has the capabilities that the traditional storage system offers. It provides all the functionality. The deduplication and compression work exactly like ONTAP's traditional storage. So people who have experience with that find it very easy to manage.""One of the most valuable features is its similarity to the physical app, which makes it familiar. It's almost identical to a real NetApp, which means you can run all of the associated NetApp processes and services with it. Otherwise, we would definitely have to deploy some hardware on a site somewhere, which could be a challenge in terms of CapEx.""If you have a larger amount of data than normal in cloud, it is easy to provision and maintain. Waiting for the delivery of the controller, the configuration of enclosures, etc., all this stuff is eliminated compared to using on-premise.""With NetApp, you can integrate malware scanning or malware protection. This is something valuable that is not offered in SaaS solutions typically.""Its features help us to have a backup of our volumes using the native technology of NetApp ONTAP. That way, we don't have to invest in other solutions for our backup requirement. Also, it helps us to replicate the data to another geographic location so that helps us to save on the costs of backup products."

"It has a user-friendly interface.""With Veritas System Recovery, we have the option to run an infinite number of full backups according to our requirements.""The solution captures the system state, so when we restore the system, it will be restored to the state it was in at the time of the backup.""The installation was straightforward.""You can back up the whole image.""The tool helps automate system recovery. The solution is most useful in scenarios involving restoration to a different environment. For instance, when migrating from a physical server to a virtual one, the tool facilitates conversion.""The solution has helped reduce my company's cost by around 50 to 60 percent.""Offers good recovery quickly."

Cons
"I would like to see more information about Cloud Volumes ONTAP using Google Cloud Platform on NetApp's website.""I would like NetApp to come up with an easier setup for the solution.""I would like to see better integration with Active IQ.""The DR has room for improvement. For example, we now have NetApp in Western Europe and we would like to back up the information to another region. It's impossible. We need to bring up an additional NetApp in that other region and create a Cloud Manager automation to copy the data... I would prefer it to be a more integrated solution like it was in the NetApp solution about a year ago. I would like to see something like AltaVault but in the cloud.""We have used technical support. As long as they don't call me at four o'clock in the morning to tell me that a drive failed and they are sending me another one, I like it. They have a tendency to do that.""The automated deployment was a bit complex using the public APIs. When we had to deploy Cloud Volumes ONTAP on a regular basis using automation, It could be a bit of a challenge.""We've just been dealing with general pre-requisite infrastructure configuration challenges. Once those are out of the way, it is easy.""The solution could be better when we're connecting to our S3 side of the house. Right now, it doesn't see it, and I'm not sure why."

"Veritas System Recovery’s pricing and local support need some improvement.""The reliability is sometimes lacking.""The pricing could be cheaper.""The tool's deployment could be easier. The deployment itself isn't the issue; rather, the problem lies in configuring policies and testing everything before it's ready. We invest a significant amount of time in preparing for various scenarios. However, we often encounter situations where changes have occurred since our initial preparations. This can render the automation less valuable.""The product's integration capabilities are an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required.""Lacks the ability to protect the database snapshot.""It needs an easier interface.""We faced issues with recovery and restoration."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was good, but it was a test system, not a real purchase."
  • "We purchased the product directly from NetApp."
  • "The deal with the seller was acceptable; the pricing is reasonable."
  • "The AWS consumer-based pricing model makes it easy for developers to use their credit cards to spin up virtual servers immediately."
  • "Compared to other storage vendors, NetApp, is not always able to compete with their pricing. Yet, we acknowledge the ease of use ONTAP brings with the AWS integration."
  • "They allow a special price if you are working closely with them. Since we have a lot of NetApp systems, we got some kind of discount. That's something they do for other customers, not just for us. The price was fair. In addition to the licensing fees, you're paying Amazon for your usage..."
  • "The standard pricing is online. Pricing depends. If you're using the PayGo model, then it's just the normal costs on the Microsoft page. If you're using Bring Your Own License, which is what we're doing, then you get with your sales contact at NetApp and start figuring out what price is the best, in the end, for your company."
  • "In addition to the standard licensing fees, there are fees for Azure, the VMs themselves and for data transfer."

  • "My company has to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution. There is no need to pay any additional fees apart from the licensing costs attached to the solution."
