We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is the security. When we identify a vulnerability, it is easy to mitigate it. NetApp provides the solution. It's also easy to create and move volumes.""OnCommand Insight's most valuable feature is the ability to see figure applications.""It gives visibility to the VMs.""It has helped us optimize our storage.""Performance monitoring of hundreds of switches and being able to see results in one dashboard.""Once we gathered and saw what we were doing with everything, we saved close to a petabyte worth of data by being able to delete old data and move stuff around. Thus, we became more efficient.""This gives me better performance numbers and gives me more information about where my loopholes are, where I need to target my customers, where I need to go back and retain storage.""I am very happy with the stability. When your customers don't notice anything wrong, that's the biggest win for a product."

"Its dashboard is quite well done. When you log into the GUI, you can basically see everything you need to know. There is also the possibility to edit the view as you like, which is great.""It has File and SQL backup, which is the main benefit for us.""The interface is very user-friendly.""Having the web-based interface is important to us because we can access it from any computer in the network, rather than having it installed and available for use only on a specific one.""The user interface is good.""The platform helps us with efficient QoreStor deduplication (DD) capabilities and configuration.""The solution allows us to block off our network and only give access to whatever we want.""If a job is pending, the solution communicates it to us through emails."

Cons
"A little bit more from technical support would give us a little bit more insight.""OnCommand Insight lacks AI to protect against ransomware and identify users accessing things abnormally.""Just make it one product, not in pieces like performance and discovery. Stop having all these individual pieces.""The initial setup is complex. There is a lot of stuff to set up. I had to teach my guys a lot of things, so there was a lot of learning.""When we first went to Cluster Mode, we had a lot of problems. Setup took a few months. We had people onsite, including one of the top guys from NetApp for a while. Going from 7-Mode to Cluster Mode was rough.""You can build those out, but initially when you bring up the dashboard, that was one thing they couldn't take away. They couldn't change that. It just looks kind of kludgy. I'd like it to look a lot more clean when I first login.""NetApp OnCommand Insight is a pretty good tool, and the only concern I have with it is the price. Its price is quite high and could be improved because the licensing feature of this particular tool is on a per GB basis instead of the price being for the complete tool itself. The more you discover, the more you need to pay, and this makes NetApp OnCommand Insight more costly when compared to other tools which are available in the market.""I'd like it to be more stable, simpler, and get Java out of it."

More NetApp OnCommand Insight Cons →

"In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault.""The initial setup is a little complex.""The product’s SQL backup plugin needs improvement.""The stability of the solution is poor.""There are command-line limitations. There is not a very strong possibility to work with the command line. The commands that are there are not that powerful, and you need to be very good at scripting, for example, in PowerShell or in Bash in case it is running on Linux systems. You need to combine a lot of commands together, and still, you will not get a great output that is presentable to others. You cannot work with it as easily.""The interface can be improved. It should be more clear what features are available and make them easy to find.""The storage capacity is very low.""There are certain issues with the product that we report to Quest, and we get offered a workaround instead of a fix. There could be better interaction with the development teams, perhaps in terms of transparency."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Pricing by terabytes, not the end of the world, and that's okay. Stop if I want this, I have to buy that. Just release it as a single product."
  • "The cost: It is expensive as a solution. You need to be an expert to get anything out of it and we don't have that kind of expertise."
  • "For me, it is always too much. Licensing is on TBs, and I think, nowadays that is outmoded."
  • "The company has saved money by narrowing down issues faster using servers and performance."
  • "We like that it is one license and everything is bundled in together."
  • "We just made a major investment back in May of this year, so we'll have it for another four and a half or five years easily. Thus, we have a five year bumper to bumper agreement."
  • "Pricing for NetApp OnCommand Insight could be cheaper. On a scale of one to five, I would rate its price a four."

  • "The price of our 12-month contract is approximately $1,500 AUD ($1,100 USD)."
  • "When we purchased four licenses, we were given a very good price. However, it is still on the high side when compared to some other vendors."
  • "The tool is expensive."
