We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The ability to get to the StorageGRID from anywhere on my network. The solution is remote. You don't have to be at a physical location.""The implementation with NetApp went smoothly. It is a 'setup and forget' type of appliance.""It has enabled us to save money on storage costs. We removed our tape library.""It has improved our operational efficiency through time consumption and logistics by 40 to 50 percent. Everything that had to do with our legacy tape solution has been improved and is now more efficient.""Duplication, interface and the manageability is good and simple."

"We can capacity plan at a greater level than we used to.""The initial setup is pretty easy and simple.""We have integrated it with VMware. The integration process is pretty good. Especially with VMware, it helps with the capacity of it.""The most valuable features include the ease of implementation, ease of use and the speed that you can do backup and recovery on.""Using this solution has made our backups more reliable.""The most valuable feature of this solution is performance.""It uses the same platform for connectivity so integration is seamless.""The initial setup is pretty quick."

Cons
"There was a small amount of confusion when working with StorageGRID and Active Directory for access. We had to do things three to four times resulting in our engineer troubleshooting a couple of things. The location of the menu, along with what is inside the menu: configurations, settings, etc., is not straightforward to users. Most users are Windows-based. So, when make logical changes to the menu which are not similar to Windows, users and administrators get confused.""The redundancy and reliability are great, but I also see room for improvement there. I would like to see more efficiency in the storage and dedupe/compression solutions."

"The technical support needs to improve. When we open a case, it is auto assigned to a support tech person. Nine out of ten times, we get an email right back saying that person is off until tomorrow. I cannot handle that. They just did this over the weekend to us, too. I had to call our rep and have them do something about it.""The speed could be improved.""I have not seen ROI.""In terms of scalability, it doesn't expand out quite as robustly as some of the others, but it covers 90% of the market in what it does.""I would like to see more monitoring capability included in the next release of this solution.""I would like to see more VM-Aware features in the next release of this solution.""It's on the expensive side, as expected for a niche product.""Compared to, for example, Hitachi NAS, the solution is not mature at all. It's just in its infancy as far as technology goes."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Creating your own data stores, backups, or storage grids, helps eliminate all these costs of downloading all the data back after you downloaded to the cloud.""Buying the solution is expensive, but it saves you money down the line when you factor in the logistics of not having to buy tapes."

"I have seen ROI. It has allowed me to increase the density of my VMs without having to purchase anything additional.""Our licensing is renewed annually.""Support is a separate line item. Support is a different cost, but whatever your support is now, that's what you're going to pay forever. If your support's $100 today, six years from now it's $100. It doesn't fluctuate unless you upgrade it, or change it, etc.""The price is a little high.""In my opinion, we have paid the right price for the product. I don't think that it is too much or too little."
