We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The performance is most important to me, and it helps our ability to make business decisions quickly.""IBM Netezza Performance Server is a cost-effective solution.""The benefit is really because of the additional speed that we have and, truth be told, the more updated ETL processes and the revamped scheduler in general.""The underlying hardware that IBM provides with this appliance is made for a specific purpose, to serve performance on a large amount of data, and to do analytics as well. It is faster, when you compare it to any other product.""The most valuable feature would be the fact that it has been running for awhile in an appliance format.""The data governance prospect... from what I've seen, that is a really powerful tool as well, to help with data lineage and keeping track of that.""We are able to execute very complex queries. Over 90 percent of our query executions are one second or less. We do millions of queries everyday.""Distribution concurrency control."

"What I like most about SAP Business Warehouse is its ability to feed data into new, multiple systems in various formats. It can open its data to any system over gateway services or a portal or application that needs to consume and analyze data.""Having the back-end data set with the right information is the best qualification for this solution.""The most useful feature has been he ability to feed data into multiple systems in various formats.""Now, because of the HANA integration, the hard disk and RAM are together, and because of that, the output is very quick and very fast actually.""The features that I have found most valuable are its capabilities to connect to Excel and to slice and dice.""With the technical support, the response has been pretty good from the SAP side.""What I like most about SAP Business Warehouse is that it's a seamless integration platform. A valuable feature in the tool is the monitoring alert that makes you aware of what process chain has failed. There's no manual monitoring required if you have configured an alert system, so the process chain can run in the background, and you can get alerts about it. The functionalities I find good in SAP Business Warehouse are alerting and monitoring. If you have configured the tool and have integrated it with SAP Solution Manager, then it's a good product to use.""The solution has functionality that makes it easy for end-users to readily extract data directly from Business Warehouse into Excel and carry on their analysis on their own."

Cons
"IBM Netezza Performance Server could improve its interface, support for big data, and APA-based connectivity should be available.""Our main problem with it is concurrency. When there are too many users running Netezza at the same time, this is when we have the most complaints.""The scalability is not as expected. The capacity in the black box is not enough.""In terms of features that I would like to see, one is the ability to actually scale out an architecture. Right now, if you buy one, it's fixed. There is no scale-up availability at all.""Concurrency limit needs to be increased somewhat.""We are not able to scale. The only way to scale is to get another appliance, but we have a customers who would need us to hydrate the data between the two appliances, and Netezza does not do that.""LIke Teradata, we can’t add a node/SPU to the existing appliance.""The only issue is that it's not expandable."

"More integration with Microsoft Office products (not just Excel) would be helpful.""You can start quickly but, when you have to get a little more detailed, when you have to change something, when you have to solve problems, it's not that easy. It's easy to start but evolving is not that easy.""I get all the information quickly, but it is one day old.""There is room for improvement from a technical perspective.""It takes more work to get the data, including reporting on that data, because some coding is required, and a significant level of transformation is needed when using SAP Business Warehouse.""What I'd like to improve in SAP Business Warehouse is its data structure, that's a little bit rigid. It could be a bit more flexible, so you can design your data structure and improve performance when creating a solution. Currently, the way data is stored in SAP Business Warehouse is rigid.""The problem with BW, and the factor that differentiated it from the original BW, is that you only get limited functionality with your runtime license. So, you have to pay extra for extracting data.""They should reduce the product’s installation package size for easier downloading."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Netezza is a costly solution. It does serve a specific purpose but it's costlier than what's available in the market, if you go to the cloud."
  • "The pricing is very expensive. It has a lot CPUs with a lot of components in it. It also has built-in redundancy for resiliency reasons."
  • "The solution has a yearly licensing fee, and users have to pay extra for support."

  • "It's moderately expensive, but definitely has its branding and price value for it."
  • "It's quite pricey. SAP changed its pricing policy, so they give you one engine and then you have to buy everything next to it, like MSS, the BPC licenses, and everything else."
  • "The license for SAP Business Warehouse is paid yearly, and there's no extra cost in addition to the standard licensing fees."
  • "Overall, the pricing is not fixed and is expensive."
  • "The licensing cost for SAP Business Warehouse depends on your revenue. Its licensing structure is a little bit complicated. The more your revenue is, the higher the price, but SAP does have different pricing structures for various companies. For small businesses, licensing isn't based on revenue, but for big companies, it's revenue-based. There's some agreement regarding pricing for huge companies, so it's different, and SAP Business Warehouse pricing isn't fixed. On a scale of one to ten, I'm rating the licensing cost for SAP Business Warehouse as five because it's very high. As your revenue grows, your licensing cost also increases, so you have to factor that in when calculating your cost."
  • "SAP Business Warehouse licensing is a bit expensive compared to other products in the market."
  • "I would not recommend it to small-scale companies. The price is too much."
  • "The solution is quite expensive."
