Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Working with the solution is very easy. It's user-friendly.""It is a one stop shop and integrated with PagerDuty seamlessly. The solution is pretty self-contained.""The solution is quite stable.""It has given us better insight into the performance of the system.""You don't have to go through a list of 500 servers.""The versatility of the solution is its most valuable feature.""It has prevented failures from occurring in our production environment.""We have done the New Relic integration with Serverless AWS, which has helped us with monitoring, and keeping our monitoring from our on-premise part with the cloud part."

"The features are pretty much ready out of the box.""Splunk's dashboards are great.""This solution is very quick to deploy as it is a SaaS solution and integrates with tools like ServiceNow.""It is a good tool. It allows you to set alerts for application and infrastructure monitoring, and it allows you to create dashboards.""The volume it handles is very good, including the number of metrics, the volume number of traces, and more.""I like the fact that Splunk APM makes it easy to connect to the application database and run queries against the data.""Detectors are a powerful feature.""Splunk APM has helped us to standardize logging and monitoring procedures."

Cons
"It would help customers if there were an on-premises version available.""The solution does not provide input on how the page performs in a big group. It just says that the page performance is bad, but it does not say what can be done to improve it. If they could provide some insight or guidance on how to make improvements, that would be a big help.""There were some settings we had issues with.""The solution only supports the cloud platform and not on-premises.""There has been some problem with the agent, and it is just not working well. It is not able to record information with the application server. They have been able to fix the issue, but it took quite a long time. This is the main issue in the APM products and also in New Relic. The mobile application monitoring has been pretty difficult to set up and also quite expensive. It should be a little bit easier and cheaper. Because it is pretty difficult and expensive, many customers don't take it.""New Relic does enable frontend performance monitoring by default. However, when we are troubleshooting the issue, New Relic is not able to trace back to the service where the issue is. Other solutions, such as Dynatrace are better.""New Relic APM is a good tool, and it has a database of failures, but it could use a list of customer-specific failures. New Relic APM should be able to give my company advanced analytics through AI.""New Relic APM could improve error debugging and the correlation with the logs. We are receiving some alerts or alarms but we need to correlate with the error log, but it is difficult if it is more than seven months retention period, it is hard to trace. We need this especially for getting historical information."

More New Relic Cons →

"We currently lack log analysis capabilities in Splunk APM.""There are some predefined metrics.......we may want to create customized metrics.""Primarily, the logs in Slunk APM can be challenging to navigate and comprehend, making it difficult to understand the details within each log. Compared to other tools like LogDNA, which are more intuitive in this aspect, the logs in Slunk APM can require more effort to understand.""The monitoring of workloads when using SignalFx could be improved.""The licensing model is expensive. We need to monitor the amount of data ingested because the cost is based on the data collected.""The cardinality is pretty low.""Splunk APM's performance could be improved - at the moment, it's very slow and takes forever to give me what I want.""The UI enhancements could be a way to improve the solution in the future."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
  • "The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
  • "Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
  • "It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly."
  • "If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity."
  • "I recommend using the free version of New Relic. If you like the free version and understand its importance for your company, you can move to the trial. Then, you can migrate to the paid version."
  • "There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high. The feature is very nice, but I tried it during the trial period, and the current price makes it impossible to use."
  • "They gave us aggressive discounts when they were brought in for the first time, but they have also kept them for the year-on-year renewals, which has been absolutely fine."
