Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It has solid performance and provides data locality.""It is a good solution and it is easy to work on their platform.""It consolidates our servers, and improves our electricity consumption and cooling as well.""The most valuable feature would be the ease of deployment. That is the most significant feature for me because I've worked with multiple vendors and it's always been very complicated to install the software and get everything running.""Best features are around data locality, compression, and deduplication.""The fact that there is only one interface to deploy a complete solution for maximum storage is fantastic.""I definitely find the reduced power consumption very valuable.""The most valuable features are its ease of use and its good performance."

"Proxmox allows us to achieve affordable performance while keeping high levels of data protection and flexibility.""The solution's compatibility is very good with multiple operating systems. The moving systems are very good and migration is excellent. These are the most valuable features for us.""The most valuable feature of this solution is performance.""The solution allows for easy integrations.""The solution is easy to install. It can run on a lot of different types of hardware. Creating virtual machines with it is really easy.""The most valuable feature of this solution is migration.""The initial setup was really straightforward and easy.""Ease of use, HA, internal 100gbps Virtio network, built-in backup (don't pay $1200 Veeam licence), support for multi-monitors on multiple VMs in KVM, no need to RDP in the VMs to do your stuff (Win, Linux and Mac with SPICE and using 6 screens here (11520*2160)."

Cons
"I would like to see a fuller integration with the public cloud. It would help the user enter the hybrid cloud infrastructure.""As of now, Acropolis and VMware cannot talk to each other. Until we have some kind of interface, it would be much better for Nutanix if they built an interface which can talk. Otherwise, if I have a VMware stack and I already have a Nutanix stack, I create containers, I create clusters on VMware, I create clusters on Nutanix. All of these clusters cannot talk to each other. Then it has to be then subverted as a parallel execution. What happens then is that I have to work in two different environments within my data center. Practically, they are two different data centers but physically and logically, they are one. If they cannot talk to each other that creates a lot of issues. That is something which Nutanix has to develop because for Nutanix it is very simple. For example, Oracle is using a function called GoldenGate. They have a feature called GoldenGate which allows them to talk to various different environments which must really help.""If we can have certified compatibility with other companies, such as Oracle, then it would let us know that they function correctly together.""The GUI for this solution needs improvement.""If they can simplify the software slightly for the installation, that would make all the difference.""We could always use a performance upgrade, or simplified management.""They have offered some new features that I have not deployed so I assume that these issues might have been addressed already, but, at my time there was a networking problem.""One thing I've noticed is that, when you do a shift from VMware to Nutanix, it opens the setup of the VM that's currently running. If people from another site double click on it, it opens the VM instead of the setup of the unit. So I would suggest that this could perhaps be switched. That is so far the only change I would like. I would like it if they could fix the instance where you double click on a VM and it opens the VM instead of the setup. That's the only thing that's a major bother to me."

"This solution needs a more flexible and efficient backup solution in the dashboard.""The solution should include some features that can help with converting raw files into different formats. It should offer better management around raw files.""I would like to see more monitoring in the next release of this solution.""The solution needs a better billing system.""We had some challenges with management including volume and storage management. Setting it up properly and making it work, specifically shared storage between the virtual machines, is difficult.""If this solution could import directly from OVS format then it would make migration much easier.""The virtualization can be better.""The Windows drivers could be easier (unlike manually installing Ballon, QEMU and optionally SPICE, VIRTio, etc.)"

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Their technical support is really good. They have been very helpful.""There are a lot of features included with Nutanix that cost a lot with other companies.""They should lower the price. If they did they would fall into a more competitive market because the price does scare a lot of potential customers away when they get the quote.""Pricing varies greatly between license and editions.""Our licensing fee on the total setup up was about R900 000.""I think it's cheaper than VMware in terms of cost.""AHV is free! This is a great feature that should be taken advantage of.""The licensing costs are a bit expensive but when you compare the features, it's reasonable."

"Proxmox is free software, but if you prefer the support and a more rested repository then you can pay for it.""Zero - this is a free solution.""The only thing you pay for is support and it is between $2,500 and $3,000 a year. It depends on the support plan you choose. Support is optional.""I am not aware of the licensing cost, but there is a cost for support."
