We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The solution's support for scripts... has reduced the man-hours it takes to deploy and support applications because we don't have to rewrite all the scripts.""The fact that these are non-technical people — they're experts in their fields but they're definitely not technical — and they can just log in to the portal and select the resource that they believe they need, and manage it themselves, speaks to the ease of use. It shows them their live costs, etc., as they're spending. The fact that they can do that without any problems, or having to engage the IT teams, is a true testament to it. There's no need for any user training at all.""Previous inquiries took us almost a full day to prepare the VM to the liking of our users. Now the deployment time is below 15 minutes and users can do it on their own! That leaves us to only update the blueprints if new requirements come in or new Windows Versions are published. As we have now predefined setups the testing team can rely on common ground for their product tests. Development teams can experiment with alpha versions in a secured environment (separate VLANs) without harming production machines.""The scripting, where you can use libraries, is a valuable feature. We don't really make the blueprints, as we have a third-party company that makes them for us. But it enables calling APIs in the blueprints. When we create a machine, we use IPAM from Infoblox and we can get an IP address. It's one platform to script and we can then use all the APIs to complete the scripts. It gives us a central management tool from which we can do a lot of things automatically."

"It allows me to see how my entire infrastructure is performing in a simplified manner.""It helps an organization quickly create test and dev environments for developers to come up with new software and patch tests.""It is easy to drill down directly to the root cause of a problem. It goes from network to storage and having access to all the metrics. When you run 100 percent virtual, then everything is in one tool.""It is easy to use from its deployment architecture to use cases. It is straightforward for customers to use. It's a good product and better than the earlier versions.""All our capacity management and capacity planning processes are based on vROps. Without this tool, we are unable to predict what we need, at what time we need to purchase new hardware, whether we should upgrade, etc.""The initial setup is very straightforward. The platform and add-on solutions are straightforward.""It is intuitive and user-friendly. It is easy to follow and the reporting engine is easy to use.""It helped troubleshooting issues with storms of software data that cost a lot of IO."

Cons
"There is room for improvement in making the solution easier still. If you don't know Calm, it's not so easy to use... It is a really good solution for doing simple tasks, but it's not a good solution for complex tasks.""Even though it's a lot easier, it could be a bit slicker for the end-users. The ability to create their own blueprints could be without their having to understand the details of what they're trying to do. If they could just tick this, this, this, and this — whatever they need — and it would go spinning those up, that would be better. Now, we still guide them quite a bit.""The list of blueprints and applications could be more configurable so you see all the fields you need and not just some predefined fields which are not customizable now.""I cannot say Calm is providing centralized control of all our applications because we have some legacy systems. We have IBM iSeries, which is another technology. But with Calm we can centralize all our x86 machines."

"If I had a container solution deployed on top of a VMware infrastructure, or outside as well, it would be really helpful.""I would like more application dashboards to be available.""We would like the return of the additional partner marketplaces, like DataCore. My customers miss the integration to DataCore.""We would like easier customer reporting, because to do customer reports, we have to do a lot of programming.""It was not intuitive and user-friendly in the versions leading up to 6.5.""At the beginning, the stability was not that good. The latest versions are much better.""It is quite expensive and if you just implement it just because you can then you won't get any benefit from it. You have to think through and plan ahead. You have to understand what the issues are that you want to solve with this solution. Otherwise, this solution is a waste of money.""It is sometimes quite hard to use. If I need details, there is a huge amount of information that I need to review. It isn't a three-click solution."

"Get the right licensing and increase your licensing as you upgrade and grow. If you get the wrong licensing, it will be expensive, especially if you plan improperly.""It was cost effective, because it fixed our problems.""The predictive analysis of the infrastructure helps our customers to reduce downtime and improve capacity planning. Issues are fixed faster with vROps.""The solution has helped to reduce the time to troubleshoot issues.""It has reduced time to troubleshoot issues. With our customized dashboards, we can target issues and attribute them to the correct team.""We would like to build custom dashboards in the standard license. Right now, this is available in the enterprise license, not the standard license.""Our budgets are always tight. We would like to have more features at lower licensing levels for easier access to them.""We have seen good ROI results. It has made our lives easier."
