Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature of Nutanix Database Service is the ability to manage multiple vendors.""This is a very useful solution for database management.""It has some very good features. It really works with multiple silos in terms of infrastructure, database updates, and migration. So many things are easy with Era.""What I like about this solution is that it's more reliable compared to other solutions.""We have an enterprise-level backup product that we're required to use, so we don't rely on Era's version. [But] it could be an awesome first-line backup. It's very elegant the way they designed it. It's quick and it doesn't take up nearly as much storage space as traditional backups. It would definitely help to save on tier-one storage.""One feature that is very good is the backup and validation process that's built into Era.""It has wizards that are very helpful in the installation, and it handles automation as well as virtualization once deployed.""The most valuable feature is its robust infrastructure management tools."

"I consider the solution very scalable.""Its dashboards are most valuable. The drill-down of the dashboards is useful.""The tool is a SaaS product where I just need to type a URL and start with the design process. I can integrate all elements of source control like GitHub, GitLab, etc. The tool also supports authentication-related provisions like SSH."

Cons
"If there were data integration services included with the platform then it would be interesting, and it would help us a lot.""The patching should be a one-button function. Also, it works about 80 percent of the time, but 20 percent of the time it requires manual intervention. And sometimes, until you understand the technical underpinnings of that process, you can't fix it. I thought we would move past that. In the last version, they broke a big chunk of that for me, and that's why I'm waiting for the new release because they promised me it would fix the problem.""The updating of the database engine is something that can be improved. For example, assume that we are using PostgreSQL out of the box, and it is version 10. If we want to migrate to version 11, 12, or 13, then it is not very easy to do that using Nutanix Era.""I would like to see the SQL compatibility enhanced.""This solution could be improved by integrating with more database providers.""The solution needs to improve compatibility with other back-ups and products.""The solution could improve by providing more support for more vendors.""The initial setup was a little tedious and complex. If they could make the setup slightly more user-friendly, then that would definitely be beneficial. If they could give a clear indication of what ports are required across the business and multiple VLANs, then your prep work can be done beforehand and before you do the actual installation. Because the documentation that was provided was not 100 percent accurate, so we had to do a lot of custom firewall rules after we deployed Nutanix Era."

"The software does not support webhooks. It doesn't support advanced versions of APIs. The tool also doesn't support advanced versions of specifications. The change that we do in one part of the model is not reflected throughout the specification. There are also some mutations in the clones. I am not able to do a local source control with the product as well.""There's no reporting with this tool, and there really should be. They should add that into future releases.""Some customizations of the dashboard, such as having backup reports, would be useful."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The licensed-based pricing is confusing and too high."
  • "Era is quite expensive. The thing that will be a showstopper for them in the long run is if you look at it from a technical perspective on what it provides and weigh it up against consolidation of multiple other software suites."
  • "Licensing costs will be the main scalability problem."
  • "It's priced fairly... It's a good value. When you go looking for something from Oracle that automates things and makes your life easier, it's always going to be a minimum of $500,000. Era's nothing like that."
  • "There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
  • "This solution is reasonably priced."
  • "Not everyone can afford it. It's a bit expensive, so the price has to be improved."
  • "The pricing is competitive."
