We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The initial setup is pretty straightforward. With a few clicks, you can stand up your storage. It reduces the overall life cycle of deployment within the ecosystem.""Unified Storage's centralized management features enable us to accomplish whatever we want in terms of operations and migrations.""Nutanix Unified Storage is easy to use. New employees are able to come up to speed fairly quickly with regard to the day-to-day administration processes.""The solution is easy to use, share, and manage.""Nutanix Objects is reliable.""The management interface is great and you have handy access to several details about your file shares.""The most valuable feature is that it is highly available, solving the pain-point of delaying updates to Windows-based file servers during production hours. And then the second one would be ransomware protection and analytics. It gives you great visibility and protection on your file shares that are otherwise the most common sources of vulnerabilities.""I like Nutanix Prism Central. The primary benefit is that we can manage everything from the same page."

"The most valuable features of Qumulo are its rolling updates and all-day availability.""The ratio of total operational cost to complexity versus feature set is very good.""It is a very stable product. I never faced any issues.""The most valuable features of Qumulo are the ease of management and special permissions that are quick to enable. The overall performance of the solution is good.""The most valuable feature is real-time analytics.""The feature that I like most is the analytics part of the file system.""The data protection algorithm to protect the data between the nodes has been the most valuable feature. The integration with backup platforms such as Veeam and Veritas has also been valuable.""The most valuable feature of Qumulo is the ability to share files and reliability."

Cons
"Unified Storage failed to fulfill our object storage requirements.""The GUI is easy to use, but it's complex to do tasks from the command line. That is one way they could simplify things for the engineers. People tend to use a graphical interface more than the command line interface. If anything goes wrong, we need to do troubleshooting from the CLI. It would be nice if there were more ways to fix issues within the GUI.""Nutanix needs to improve their cybersecurity options at the storage level.""One thing I'd appreciate is having a desktop application similar to what VMware offered.""The interface is not logical. It should be a little simpler.""The only thing I would say is missing for us it is FTP protocol compatibility.""We have issues with software updates occasionally.""Customer service is more difficult to call and they do not responding as much as, for example, DataCore. It's not the same level of satisfaction compared to DataCore. Responses could be faster."

"The solution could improve availability and improve data protection or data services such as compression of deduplication. In a future release, we'd like to have more cloud API integrations.""The support for iMac and protocols should be improved, not all features are available.""One aspect of Qumulo that I hoped to see improved was its software upgrade process, which did see significant progress during my usage. Initially, upgrading the software resulted in several minutes of system downtime. However, by the time I departed last summer, the downtime had reduced to mere ten seconds. Although I am unsure if Qumulo has yet achieved a completely outage-free upgrade, I simply performed the upgrades early in the morning before the marketing department began its workday, so any downtime was inconsequential.""In the next release, I would like to see the ability to have more control at a terminal level of the file system.""The price of the software is a bit expensive, so a reduction in cost would make it more competitive.""Qumulo should continue to expand automation and orchestration capabilities.""Some anti-theft permissions do not transfer well to Qumulo.""In the future, I would like to see non-disruptive updates."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price of the license is expensive when comparing it to traditional storage."
  • "I find Nutanix Files Storage competitively priced, even its feature set. Its price is seven out of ten."
  • "If we compare the cost of Nutanix Objects Storage to other solutions such as VMware licenses, our current choice is Nutanix Objects Storage. This solution is more cost-effective. However, adding VMware to Nutanix would not be a cost-efficient decision, which is why we do not use it anymore."
  • "It is quite expensive otherwise as it comes with three-tier peer underlying hardware."
  • "For clients running Nutanix, the licensing cost for Files is a small add-on cost."
  • "With all of the Nutanix equipment, the licensing is expensive. We operate in the enterprise space, but we're a midsized company. At times, the price tag is a little bit shocking for a company with only 35 employees. We're not a Fortune 500 company, but we deal with Fortune 500 drug and energy companies. We have to play in that enterprise space if we're going to have enterprise customers. I'm very price-conscious, but I understand that if I want the best, I've got to pay the price."
  • "It's not the cheapest solution. It's in line with other solutions, but it offers features that the competitors don't have at any price point, especially with regard to analytics and ransomware prevention. No one else has any sort of object-based storage available. Nutanix Unified Storage is a lot more feature-rich. This is a situation where you get what you pay for."
  • "The product is pricey."

  • "The price of the solution is in the middle range compared to others. We look at the price per terabyte."
  • "The price of Qumulo is reasonable."
