Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It monitors and continuously tests everything that is of importance to you and your users. It could be everything from monitoring disk space to CPU usage to memory. It could include determining if the response time in your e-commerce platform is quick enough, or whether you have too many bounces from some of the pages on your website. You want to monitor anything that could cost you money or time or resources. You can do that with this system. It's very flexible.""The API makes it pretty easy to integrate with any system."

"One of its valuable features is the fact that it handles multiple operating systems... And I like the fact that it tells me when things are about to fall over, which means I can preempt it and not have to wake up at three in the morning to fix it.""The sensors and probes are great, nice and lightweight, they don't take up too many resources on the system. We just deploy them out and they start reporting instantly.""Speed of deployment is one of the most valuable features.""The alerting is the most valuable feature. I also like the iPhone app. I get alerts in an email on the iPhone app.""The real-time monitoring and alerting are its most valuable features.""The feature whereby it shows when my hard drives are moving towards thresholds that would be considered outages, before they reach that point - that is valuable.""The solution provides us response times to issues.""From a network point of view, we can see the state of the network, as well as bandwidth usage and downtime."

Cons
"IT environments today are in constant flux. This is driven by the newer cloud technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker, etc. The whole Nagios-based monitoring system that OP5 is created on top of, is based on a host-service model. There is a need for a strategy on what to do with more dynamic environments. There is some cool stuff going on in that direction.""The user interface is not what we are used to these days, and should be improved."

"It would be good if there were better graphical interfaces when you have it on multiple monitors... Because we have so many servers, things can get lost in the fog a little bit. Maybe having a better way of showing different geographies, Flash, etc., would help.""When it comes to third-party integration, one of the things we were looking at was putting some sensors onto our firewall, for instance. If there were a little bit more documentation and some step-by-step guides around that, that would be useful for us.""The Desktop app is good but it can be really sluggish at times, especially when you're editing different elements.""In terms of sensors and probes, it would be really cool if PRTG had a purely Azure-based solution. We had to install a probe on one of our cloud servers and then let that probe out from there. It would be really cool if it just monitored Azure without having to install something on the device.""Sometimes, it is difficult to drill down further to get information, e.g., if we saw spike in traffic, then we would want to drill down and find out what is causing that spike in traffic.""I would like to see Office 365 monitoring. Essentially, it doesn't do it. I assumed not at all, but apparently it does it slightly. However, due to issues with APIs, they currently don't provide full monitoring for O365.""We have had a few issues with the web elements, as far as the dashboard. With the dashboard, it has to be manually refreshed. Occasionally, we reboot the server, or at least web services, due to the web aspect.""I would like a more straightforward ability to create dashboards and maps. The network maps should be a bit more flexibility in the GUI to do what we need to do."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"OP5 has a very low price as a solution, compared to many other solutions out there."

More OP5 Monitor Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The pricing is not too bad. It's not massively expensive, and the ability to upscale or even downscale licenses every year is brilliant for us.""On a yearly basis, I believe it's between £1,200 and £1,500.""We've got 1,000 nodes and I believe it's a few hundred quid a month.""Because we are only on the free version, we have a limited number of sensors. Therefore, we are not monitoring as much as we want to be to obtain historical information.""We are licensed for 2500 endpoints.""We pay for a perpetual license and we have a support fee.""We've got the unlimited package... I believe it was around the £15,000 per year mark.""The pricing is very low compared to other solutions."

Overview

OP5 Monitor - The Complete Monitoring Solution

A flexible and highly scalable monitoring solution for all sizes of environments. Use just one product to monitor your IT environment regardless of location, whether on-premise, in dynamic environments, public cloud or a hybrid between these.

New technologies add extra layers and complexity to the IT estate by creating a Hybrid IT environment of both static and dynamic environments, that can be difficult to monitor efficiently. ITRS OP5 Monitor gives firms a view of their entire IT-estate through a single pane of glass, allowing them to consolidate monitoring tools and cut down costs.

PRTG Network Monitor runs on a Windows machine within your network, collecting various statistics from the machines, software, and devices which you designate. PRTG comes with an easy-to-use web interface with point-and-click configuration. You can easily share data from it with non-technical colleagues and customers, including via live graphs and custom reports. This will let you plan for network expansion, see what applications are using most of your connection, and make sure that no one is hogging the entire network just to torrent videos.

To monitor a large IT environment, it's important to be able to scale PRTG up. Paessler PRTG Enterprise Monitor includes all the proven capabilities of PRTG Network Monitor, which are enhanced by exclusive ITOps Board for a service-oriented, central overview of multiple PRTG servers.
