"The big thing is the event management engine, which is really, really nice to use, and it comes at a reasonable price, unlike some of the competitors like Netcool from IBM. Those kinds of tools are hugely expensive and they come as resource-heavy types of solutions. This obviously doesn't require as much hardware, but it does offer similar benefits where you can manage all the events.""The installer itself is basically something that can be used as a no-questions-asked type of installer. I can use it with automation tools like Chef and Puppet. I don't have to answer some random questions. I can worry about all that stuff later on in the configuration.""It does have different modules, so you can extend the solution as you need it, or get as little as you need in the beginning, so you don't have to buy a full set of modules. You just buy what you need and expand later on.""In my case, I prefer to only poll interfaces that have descriptions, and the ones that don't have descriptions, I don't really want to know about them. It does allow for all these bits and pieces and adjustments, and fine tuning to get it to a point where it works for my needs.""It allows for variable polling times of devices on the network. Because it's all in text, in general, that obviously makes it easier from the automation perspective as well, to modify configuration on the fly, using Puppet and those kind of tools."

"The product is reasonably priced.""Auto scanning is most valuable. It looks for rogue devices on your network.""The most important features of WhatsUp Gold are the server health and uptime it provides. Additionally, WhatsUp Gold is a Windows-based solution which is a benefit.""WhatsUp Gold is very easy to deploy.""The user interface is good enough.""The solution effectively monitors network devices and servers.""The threshold alerting is the most valuable feature.""The interactive mapping interface for scrolling, zooming, and drilling down on an element to learn about a network issue is good. When we see a network there will sometimes be a spot that has one link. You can go into a particular part of the topology map, scroll in, and see exactly which module it is."

Cons
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Cons →

"These kinds of solutions are more node- or device-based solutions. It would be nice in the future if they could be more data-oriented, so it would be easier for me to pull different stats based on ad-hoc requirements; but in a big, centralized database where I can pull specific things, and mix and match the way I want to."

More Opmantek NMIS Cons →

"I would like to see better integration with switches so that you can see what is connected to each port, what the traffic is, and have a network map automatically generated.""Users want SMS available via Whatsapp Gold. They don't want to go through third party SMS servers. The solution should work to make this possible.""One of the biggest things that made us start to look at another product is we're not able to have an end to end monitoring from a user perspective throughout the system and back to the user. All the monitoring is from inside out, we need something that also can give us from outside in.""The pricing for this solution has gone up quite recently, which has led some of our customers to buy an alternative product.""I might like to see a better interface in the future.""WhatsUp Gold should work on real-time monitoring and configuration management. If they succeed in doing this, the solution will cover all the network troubleshooting aspects and will be a benefit.""The initial setup of WhatsUp Gold is a medium range of difficulty levels. However, if it is your first time it could be difficult.""The technical support does not bother to respond."
