Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The most valuable features of this solution are advanced malware protection, IPS, and IDS.""One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful.""If you compare the ASA and the FirePOWER, the best feature with FirePOWER is easy to use GUI. It has most of the same functionality in the Next-Generation FirePOWER, such as IPS, IPS policies, security intelligence, and integration and identification of all the devices or hardware you have in your network. Additionally, this solution is user-friendly.""If configured, Firepower provides us with application visibility and control.""I have experience with URL filtering, and it is very good for URL filtering. You can filter URLs based on the categories, and it does a good job. It can also do deep packet inspection.""We get the Security Intelligence Feeds refreshed every hour from Talos, which from my understanding is that they're the largest intelligence Security Intelligence Group outside of the government.""I like the firewall features, Snort, and the Intrusion Prevention System (IPS).""It has a good security level. It is a next-generation firewall. It can protect from different types of attacks. We have enabled IPS and IDS."

"I have found the solution has some great features overall, such as guest access capabilities, dashboards, and ease of use. There is plenty of documentation and support and it has the plugins that I needed.""The most valuable features are reporting, the Sensei plugin, and firewall capabilities.""The system in general is quite flexible.""The graphic user interface is very good and it is user-friendly which makes the product easy-to-use.""The most valuable features in OPNsense are reporting and visibility.""We have found pretty much all the features of the solution to be valuable.""The solution is good for a basic firewall for a small business or for home use.""The interface and the dashboard are the most valuable features of this solution."

"Good site categorization and application controls.""It lets me monitor in live time if someone is 'hogging' bandwidth.""The most valuable features have been content filtering, and the interface is easy to navigate and to use.""We are very much happy with the support.""I like the firewall product, the security server, and the content filter.""We like their interface very much. It's pretty easy to use.""It protects against intrusion while allowing needed access.""Good VPN connection."

Cons
"Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded.""The initial setup could be simplified, as it can be complex for new users.""They need a VTI. I know it's going to be available in the next software version, which is the 6.7 version. However, the problem with that is that the 6.7 is going to deprecate all the older IKEv1 deployment tunnels. Therefore, the problem is that we have a lot of customers which are using older encryptions. If I do that, update it, it's not going to work for me.""The initial setup can be a bit complex for those unfamiliar with the solution.""My team tells me that other solutions such as Fortinet and Palo Alto are easier to implement.""It would be great if some of the load times were faster.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website.""FirePOWER does a good job when it comes to providing us with visibility into threats, but I would like to see a more proactive stance to it."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"The solution would not be suitable for anything large-scale.""There are issues with stability and reliability.""While they do have paid options that actually gives better features, for most of the clients, if they tend to take a paid option will instead opt for Fortinet.""The solution could be more secure.""I would like to see better SD-WAN performance.""The interface needs to be simplified. It is not user-friendly.""There should be more technical documentation.""The ability to set the VPN IP address would be a welcome addition."

More OPNsense Cons »

"In general, the company needs to think contingently and integrate more security options.""Its reporting can be improved. Currently, we cannot directly get the user names. It only shows the IP, which makes it a bit confusing because we need to use the IP to find the user. If we could directly get the name of the user, it would be better.""In terms of what needs to be improved, I would say better load balancing and data filtering.""The dashboard needs to be improved.""From a support perspective, if we're talking tech support I think Silver Partners, Gold Partners, Platinum, whatever level, should have a different number to call. End users can call tech support over at SonicWall if they've paid for support as part of their AGSS or whatever services they bought. The end-user can call, or we can call, however, I don't want to be calling the same line that an end user's calling. I don't want the same response time. I need a different level of expertise.""The marketing of SonicWall has to be increased. Currently, when it comes to firewalls, most people go for Cisco and Palo Alto. SonicWall should improve its marketing and branding policies to increase sales. Other than that, it is good.""We require centralized monitoring of the network features, which they have but they are not to the level that we require.""The VPN that is available in the new version is a bit bulky and slower in speed."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today."

"It is not an expensive product. Basically, I deployed it because it was the fastest solution to satisfy our needs in open source.""The solution is not expensive.""OPNsense is an open-source solution and it is free to use.""As an appliance, it's in the medium price range.""OPNsense is a well known open-source tool.""OPNsense is open source software so at this time it is free for us to use."

More OPNsense Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The price is fair for the solution for the quality you receive.""It is a bit expensive. We have to purchase the license and the reporting part separately, which makes it a bit pricey. This is the main reason why we have thought of moving to another firewall. It would be good if they combine both of these.""Customers are required to pay for a yearly subscription.""Its price is very high, which makes it difficult to convince the clients to buy this solution.""The license that we purchased is good for three years.""The price is fair.""Its pricing is okay as compared to other solutions.""It has a yearly subscription."
