We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Oracle Data Guard is a free solution. When you apply for Enterprise Manager, it comes for free with the solution.""Technical support is very good. If at any time we write a ticket, we get the appropriate answer on time.""We chose this solution for the availability of the databases. We can't afford Oracle Grid, this is the best solution if you want something similar that's less expensive.""The solution is really very stable. One good thing about it, compared to other products, is that you can just run it and forget about it. Unless you come across some interruptions in the network, it works like a charm.""The solution has been stable so far.""The most valuable features are the backup and restore. With this in place along with the clustering, the database is safe from hacking, hardware failure, power failures, and system crashes.""It's a very good solution if you want to protect your data across two data centers, or you have a middle man or many administrators who use these solutions for protecting their data. It's very reliable compared to other solutions that are most often not storage-based.""The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any bugs, glitches, or crashes. We find it to be quite reliable."

"The Veeam Backup and Replication Suite is very user-friendly.""The ease of use for the graphical interface and the ease of installation are the most valuable features of this solution.""The solution is very simple. Management of the platform is so simple that we don't need to have any training to deploy this solution.""It's most compatible with VMware. It can restore single files instead of having to restore the whole machine, once again leading to savings for the company.""The initial setup was straightforward. It's not complicated. It takes around half an hour to implement, but it depends on the performance of the server that you are installing the backup software on.""The solution is very user-friendly and has an easy to use interface. We can manage it easily. It allows for a simple backup.""The really amazing feature about Veeam Agent is that when you're using the central deployment model, you can actually use the instant VM recovery feature, which is really a pain point that I find some days.""The technical support is good."

Cons
"Oracle Data Guard is stable, but you need to keep monitoring the system all the time. You need to keep monitoring the archives.""The database administration needs improvement. With Oracle, we have a lot of features for administrating data, but it might be too many. It needs to be simplified. It should be automated. Looking at Enterprise Manager, there are too many KPIs in place.""For every standby server you have, you must pay a licensing fee, which is the main disadvantage.""The implementation is complex for anyone who's jumping into it without any experience. It's all command-line driven implementations. For some, that's a turn-off.""It is a rather complex solution, so it could be more user-friendly.""When the data replicates into the standby database there is a possibility of having a microsecond amount of data loss. The data loss occurs when there is a network disconnection between the primary and secondary standby database located in the data centers or if there is a crash in the primary database.""The IP implementation and maintenance are a little bit hard to manage across Oracle solutions, including Oracle Data Guard.""The pricing of the solution is quite high. They should do what they can to bring it down so that it is more reasonable for customers like us."

"In new releases, I hope they can support Oracle cloud.""It could use deduplication features.""Scalability, if you are talking about Linux, is good. However, if you need to backup more types of solutions or Unix systems, like HP/UX, AIX, etc., it's not compatible.""It's scalable, but it's not scalable on every platform.""In terms of the physical environment, I'd like them to integrate it with other kinds of solutions. We don't just work with Microsoft or Linux, but other kinds of infrastructure data as well.""It would be much better if more applications were supported on the Linux side. For example, their agent for Windows not only can back up the Windows machine, but it can also back up Active Directory for granular restore, SQL servers, Exchange, Oracle, SharePoint, etc. When it comes to Linux, only Oracle databases are supported. There are workarounds, though.""In the next version, I would like to see an increase in the locations online. I have found that other products have good pickup location.""We are currently waiting for the continuous backup process."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"This is the best solution if you want something similar that's less expensive than Oracle Grid.""If you want to have everything automated and done smoothly, you have to add additional licenses."

More Oracle Data Guard Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Licensing costs are $300,000 USD yearly, and we pay for three years at a time.""It's a subscription based license, which is started on a yearly basis. Currently the licensing is split between three editions: standard, enterprise, and enterprise plus. As long as you check the comparison between the additions and make sure that you have what you need, there are no extra costs with Veeam.""The solution is rather expensive and I think the price is too high.""The costing is very competitive."
