Pros
The solution is really very stable. One good thing about it, compared to other products, is that you can just run it and forget about it. Unless you come across some interruptions in the network, it works like a charm. We chose this solution for the availability of the databases. We can't afford Oracle Grid, this is the best solution if you want something similar that's less expensive.Technical support is very good. If at any time we write a ticket, we get the appropriate answer on time.Oracle Data Guard is a free solution. When you apply for Enterprise Manager, it comes for free with the solution. If you have a problem with your primary site and can't access your primary database, you can continue working with the database that you have as standby on the other site, by changing its role to primary.Another valuable feature is the possibility of backing up the database from the standby database instead of the primary database, to avoid backup process overhead in the primary system.

The ability to perform DR testing to ensure data integrity is critical. The ability to have a RPO of seconds has enabled us to restore data to just before an incident has occurred, which certainly saves a lot of time and money. We now have the ability to replicate critical data to a secure, off-site location that can be brought back in seconds if needed.Implementing this solution has given us sandboxing and the ability to move VMs.The ability to fully test your entire environment without actually performing a failover is invaluable. It has enabled DR protection for virtual appliances with minimal administrator time.During a failover to a DR site, Zerto can automatically change the IP address of servers. With Zerto, we were able to replicate our virtual servers to a remote DR site across a WAN connection.

Cons
The implementation is complex for anyone who's jumping into it without any experience. It's all command-line driven implementations. For some, that's a turn-off.For every standby server you have, you must pay a licensing fee, which is the main disadvantage. The database administration needs improvement. With Oracle, we have a lot of features for administrating data, but it might be too many. It needs to be simplified. It should be automated. Looking at Enterprise Manager, there are too many KPIs in place.Oracle Data Guard is stable, but you need to keep monitoring the system all the time. You need to keep monitoring the archives.I think it would be great to have a graphical interface assistant (like DBCA, ASMCA, NETCA, etc.) for initial configuration, monitoring, configuring Oracle Data Guard Broker and all the Data Guard Broker commands, without needing Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control installed.

Increased granularity in how long to keep the journal would be nice.We have had issues with licensing, where the license we've been given by Zerto support doesn't include VSS replication, which was a pain at the time. The email alerts can be excessive, so better control over frequency or resolution may be a worthwhile improvement. The backup functions are in need of improvement. There needs to be more flexibility in the licensing. It would be helpful if the reports can be generated periodically, on a schedule.I would like them to add a VM host replication option. Being able to replicate host configuration between sites would be a huge benefit. The full site recovery is not up to SRM standards.

You are getting what you pay for, as this is a solution that requires minimal management after it is configured. While we find the twenty-five VM license somewhat inflexible, the actual setup costs are minimal as the product is so easy to install. The solution is very cost-effective and very easy to set-up but does not compromise on features. We believe the pricing, setup costs, and licensing are easy to understand. The pricing seems very reasonable. It's a little bit expensive.Licensing is VM based so you can buy packages or single VM. Price is not low but the power of application is high, so you will get your money back.
