Most Helpful Review
Very helpful to have the ability to enable centralized control & administration of Oracle products from a single console
Find out what your peers are saying about Oracle Enterprise Manager vs. Pandora FMS and other solutions. Updated: November 2019.
378,397 professionals have used our research since 2012.
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
It gives us visibility inside applications. It helps us to dig down and find the root cause of any issue within the network.
It is easy to implement but requires good planning.
It is reliable when it comes to monitoring.
The benefit is easy installation. Thus, the model approach of the product and out-of-the-box probes, which deliver direct value.
You can integrate clouds, hybrid infrastructure, and on-premise infrastructure into one product.
It is the foundation for our monitoring solution.
Having all of our information within one tool set; our alerts, our monitors, and the things that our operations team needs to function.
It reduced cycles for a lot of quick out-of-the-box functionality. It also allowed us to get away from being stuck in SNMP, VTP V2, based off of agent deployment.
The most valuable feature is high availability.
The 13cR2 updates to the OEM family, strongly integrate Cloud (off-site, hybrid and on-premise) services providing a seamless way to see all of your resources regardless of where they are deployed.
SQL Tuning Advisor, ADDM, Top Activity, ASM Space Manager, Incident Notifications
I have found the singular GUI feature very helpful. Fewer DBA resources can be allocated with Toad licenses.
Oracle Enterprise Manager has eased the responsibilities among our DBAs. We can now assign individual tasks to separate DBAs.
With ASH Analytics, ADDM, Real-Time SQL Monitoring, SQL Tuning Advisor, we can measure SLAs, detect performance hotspots, perform deep diagnostics into specific tiers, tune applications, and remediate.
It can also help with capacity planning, sizing, and maximizing overall performance in a large scale environment.
This solution allows us to quickly drill down when there are issues.
What I value most about Pandora FMS is the simplicity of working with it.
We are able to control our business with this all-in-one monitoring tool.
It allows me to quickly see the status of all of my printers, switches, computers, and virtual machines to determine if any system has fallen.
Pandora FMS provides us with a general report (graphical) about all of the connected devices, which helps with planning new stations and tracking them.
The solution is so lightweight that with only 4GB of ram, it allows keeping track of up to two hundred agents from a single console.
Thanks to its flexibility, I have been able to adapt the tool to our servers and find out quickly how their console works.
The official forum is active enough to answer most of the high-end technical questions that you may have.
This solution has screens that are easy to understand and provide a wealth of information.
There is also room for improvement in the reporting. It is not really good enough, according to our customers. So what we now usually do is use Power BI to get them the kinds of reports they want.
Reporting capability can be improved especially when it comes to availability.
We want to see more investment in the UI and the dashboard.
How we can get more native information from CA's solutions.
They need to continue to advance the filter capabilities, and provide more input fields.
I would like to see auditability. We've built our own audit functionality to ensure that every CI has the desired model configuration applied to it. And we run that on a daily basis. If that became part of the product, I think it might be a little bit less intensive in terms of resource, because we're doing it with scripts.
It is a little complex to use versus other softwares.
The biggest feature that I've been hoping they would enhance on is inventory management: things like adding/removing nodes.
RMAN tools need improvement.
Reporting and statistical charting is largely still left up the end-user to develop custom solutions.
Patching. It's extremely difficult to determine what requires patching and the process to patch each component is slightly different.
They should improve the hover text context. This would provide assistance whenever a task is attempted by a DBA.
The product is pretty comprehensive, but quite resource hungry. This might be due to the majority of the application seemingly being written in Java.
Better mobile access would be useful.
I would say mostly backup and recovery, through the Enterprise Manager. Or any corruptions, to be able to fix them through Enterprise Manager.
The price for Pandora FMS is expensive.
Third-party integration should be improved for some commonly used products.
This solution requires proper training to get 100% out of it.
It would be useful if Pandora FMS included an ISO image (or «software appliance») for each big company that leases virtual private machines (VPS), just like in AWS.
When it comes to the definition of local Software Agents for the first time in the open-source version, it can become very tedious.
I sincerely believe that Pandora needs new ideas for functionality closer to advanced device security monitoring.
Pandora FMS is an overall great monitoring solution, but it does not have a community that is as large as Zabbix or Nagios.
I would like to have a dashboard with all assets displayed, with a quick hover-over status.
Pricing and Cost Advice
Information Not Available
The pricing is very high.
Based upon 3 days of implementation by a single person, plus licensing costs would be approximately $60,000, including the virtualized hosts.
There are a few bugs with the software which require opening SRs with Oracle Support which contribute to the day-to-day cost. Perhaps 8 hours per month is spent dealing with support, just as a rough guess.
The basic functions are free. You only pay license fees for advanced features.
Evaluate your requirements carefully. Elaborate DR and HA setup of OEM can become expensive.
Be careful to only enable the packs for which you have a license as this is an issue we see time and again.
The Open Source Community Edition is great to just explore the software, or use it on medium-sized infrastructures.
Growing the solution or migrating to the Enterprise version is easy, and various plans are available.
The open-source version offers 100% functionality and the hardware requirements for a solution like this one are very modest.
In terms of money, the Enterprise version is the cheapest that I have found after a market study.
My rule of thumb would be that if you need more than thirty agents, and you lack an automation tool such as Chef or Puppet, you will save a lot of time and money going to the Enterprise edition.
You get the license and it includes updates, new versions, and access to the complete library of modules.
Pandora FMS is easy to implement and the pricing of licenses is competitive.
Only one payment and it includes support, updates, new versions, and access to the complete library of plugins except for SAP and z/OS.
